The food at Refugio was so different and amazing. The food had an amazing twist between Spanish and Japanese food which worked so well. This place is a must to try out for anyone visiting Valencia.

I've visited El Refugio twice, once for dinner and most recently for lunch. The restaurant is very conveniently situated in the Cathedral area and it's full character. The decor is nicely downbeat and the lunch set menu is reasonably priced and quite delicious. They catered for a large family dinner the last time I was there, and provided a delicious... More

Came here with the family one afternoon. This is the kind of place you want to keep secret all for yourself. First it is great value for what you get. The service is really good, warm and welcoming. Order a gin and tonic and you will be measuring every subsequent one against for the rest of your life against it... More

Cod and tuna main courses were really good. Fine white wine, friendly service. All in all a very good restaurant.

Unprepossessing looking place, so nearly didn't go in until looked at menu outside. Friendly efficient service with very enjoyable, I suppose untypical (to me) Spanish food. Delicious mesclun salad shared to start, husband had fabulous hunk of tuna with black rice, absolutely delicious and I don't normally like tuna! I had oven roasted cod with fennel and citrus which was... More

I went to this restaurant going on past recommendations from TripAdvisor. The decor is simple and it has a rustic feel about the place. In fact I went to this restaurant twice during my stay in Valencia. Once for Dinner and then for lunch. I was not disappointed.. On the first visit, for dinner the menu was both in Spanish and... Interesting dishes not executed particularly well though. Duck breast overcooked although the skin fat not properly rendered. And a promising tuna dish let down by a lousy cut of fish. Good to see interesting combination of ingredients but needs more polish or its a case of style over substance.

Had a lovely menu del dia lunch here today. €12 for three courses plus a cafe. We had the chicken to start. I then had the fish, pieces of monk fish and hake in a bisque sauce whilst my husband had the beef wrapped in a banana leaf. For desert we had the coffee pudding with ice cream and the... More

This is a restaurant with a difference: imaginative dishes beautifully prepared in the open plan kitchen, excellent wines at reasonable prices, a wonderfully friendly host and a great atmosphere in the two tightly packed dining areas. It is no exaggeration to say that this was by some distance the best of many meals that I have eaten in Spain. I... More

We stumbled on this restaurant, while exploring the Barrio Carmen. The food is very different to anything else we had in Valencia and we would highly recommend it. I started with a mussel, prawn and scallop ceviche with 'tiger' milk, my husband had the goat cheese, both were delicious. For main courses, we had Monkfish with spicy sausage cracker and... More
