We were visiting the Bull again after hearing there were new owners. Our last visit more than a year ago was a dreadful experience, but as we had always enjoyed it before that we decided to give it one more chance. We were pleasantly surprised...as the atmosphere was welcoming and the pub was warm and looked well kept. It was certainly a bit disconcerting to be given the menus followed by a long list of what was unavailable and we could only think that in having to remember all the items caused the waitress to be a little bit offhand. However, as the meal progressed she warmed up and actually began to smile.... something which goes a long way to a customer. Even with the list of unavailable items, the menu was a generous one. The platters are particularly generous, the clucker chicken platter was enjoyed by my husband. I had a special , pork belly served with mash or saute potatoes, seasonal vegetables with red wine gravy. It was good but the seasonal veg consisted of frozen peas only and the gravy was just gravy, but it was plentiful. Had I known it was only peas, I probably would have made a different choice. The crackling was also not edible, very chewy and I love crackling. The others in our party had a shared seafood platter and the pie. Our clean plates showed we all enjoyed our food. Desserts were also consumed with relish. All in all we enjoyed our meal, such an improvement from our last visit and more like old times 2 or 3 years ago. We will certainly be making a return visit; just more vegetables and a welcoming smile.More

I’m posting this review to warn diners that eating here could be hit or miss. I lunched here with two friends on Friday 16th of February. From the start it went downhill. Two items not available on the menu. I chose pork belly. After a...good while it appeared. I could not actually cut into it. I sent it back. The replacement wasn’t much better. Don’t know what went on in the kitchen but the pork hadn’t seen much of the oven . You don’t have to be a chef to know that belly of pork needs long slow cooking. Obviously most of the dish was inedible. For dessert I asked for strawberry pavlova. Apparently the “chef” said it wasn’t ready!! The whole place smacks of disorganisation. People left after waiting an hour to get served. Service was really below par. I did get a reduction on my bill but my day was spoilt. The place needs a person who knows how to cook. If it’s not careful it could get closed like last year if it doesn’t pull up its socks. Oh and £8.50 for crumble! You must be joking Shan’t be going here againMore

First class Sunday roast. Meat very tender and good selection of vegetables. Roast potatoes were out of this world! Excellent and very friendly service. It's a great place for families or with your friends. Booking advisable.

We have just returned from having a delicious Sunday Lunch of roast beef with all the trimmings.portions are very big and my Wife was very pleased she went for the small one. I went for the adult size and really struggled to finish and that...was without having a starter.we both couldn’t go for a dessert . We were served by a very pleasant and helpful Waitress called Lucy.I would thoroughly recommend this pub restaurant and hopefully be visiting many times in the new year with friends and family.More

I organised a Christmas lunch here, for a group of 13, booking the date when I collected the menus for the group to make their choices. When I took the menus back, the date was not in their diary so it was lucky that the...date was still available. We have been before with no problems, and I came for a lunch as it had changed hands, just to check it out under new management. The lunch for two was good so I recommended that we came as a group. This time the whole lot was embarrassing on my part. I was put out that no care was taken to the drinks, using a Spitfire glass to hold a lager and Guinness was put into an Italian lager glass. The presentation of the food was not good, turkey and stuffing balanced in top of rock hard potatoes. Nearly everyone left the potatoes. We are a group of people that have had heart surgery and expected better food than we got. We will not be returning in a hurry.More

Was really looking forward to coming to the Bull as hadn’t been since it changed hands. Despite pre booking and providing our menu choices we waited an hour for our first course to arrive. It was then over an hour before we had desserts and...we decided we wouldn’t have coffees as we couldn’t wait that long for them to arrive. I then had to approach the bar to ask for the bill and then had to ask again for them to come and take our payment. If the staff were rushed off their feet I’d have had more sympathy but every time I tried to get someone’s attention they were standing at the bar chatting to each other. As the food was pretty average as well there was absolutely no incentive to return.More

We booked as a party of 13. When we arrived, there were only 12 seats. After getting that sorted, we waited a good half hour for the pre-booked starter. We got so bored that we pulled the crackers. The mains came out after another long...wait. The game pie was good, but the roast potatoes were huge, overcooked and hard on the outside. The vegetables were half cold and the watery gravy not hot enough to warm them up. After another long wait, we received our desert, although the waitress had failed to remove items from the main course such as gravy boats. Then another wait for half warm coffee. All in, it took us nearly 4 hours to eat. The bar man apologised to the organiser, but it would have been nice to come to the table and explain any problems they were having.More

We visited The Bull Bethersden for Christmas lunch at the end of November, which was pre booked and pre ordered for a group of 13. It was absolutely dreadful and embarrassing for the organiser. The waitress was unwelcoming and sullen. My first course, prawn cocktail,...was watery with no dressing. The turkey main course, which eventually arrived over an hour after we had finished our starters, was burnt, dry and cold. The stuffing was unrecognisable and burnt, the gravy was watery Bisto. The dessert which was allegedly Christmas pudding was just edible. As for the coffee, it was half a cup of weak instant, and the waitress complained that she had to boil the kettle! My one star is for the barman. Needless to say we won’t be returning.More

Group had a Christmas meal, missed a meal out, very slow to rectify, in the end we had all eaten so the lady in question didn’t want her meal understandably. No one else in pub so not at all busy. Brie starter was lovely, turkey...so so, all veg luke warm. Gravy like water. Pudding ok. Cream on menu to be a choice to be served with pudding but not available on day. Instant coffee. Honestly all of this would be ok if it were not for the terrible service. Bad attitude, not a smile in sight. Sadly I can see now why pub empty.More

Visited this evening for a christmas meal. Food was pre ordered for 16 of us. After telling the waitress we were a meal short and 20 minutes later still not sorted. It appeared the chef cannot count. By the time i was offered a meal...most had finished there meal so i refused it being cooked. The waitress later on told me it was a small kitchen. Well im sure the chef could count 13 christmas turkey meals even with a small kitchen. It wasnt a problem that a meal was missed it was how it was handled and how long it took them to look into!More

We had a lovely family meal. After looking at the menu, decided to share a starter and went for the camembert which; it was delicious and plenty to share. For our mains we each had the chicken and leak pie from the specials board -...it was as delicious as it looked! Lastly, we had the rhubarb and apple crumble with warm custard for pudding, melted in the mouth! The stand out was the jammy dodger cheesecake which is the reason we came for a meal after seeing a pic on facebook. Absolutely delicious , the only negative is that it won’t be on the menu permanently but hopefully there will be more.More

A fantastic meal once again, I have reviewed The Bull before and would normally not write a second review but I felt the food and the service we had this evening deserved some praise. I had the spicy hot chicken wings for a starter very...tasty with a loverly fresh salad and tasty dip. For our mains my mum had the seafood platter which I had to taste as it looked so nice, beautiful salmon and juicy prawns! I had ham egg and chips a very simple dish but the ham was beautiful and the eggs cooked to perfection, was very tasty. It was the service that also stood out. Yes the restaurant was quiet but there were plenty of people eating in the garden and the staff were in and out with food all evening but we were checked on regularly and not at any point made to feel to hurry up ( we were chatting lots so stayed longer than would normally). Even the chef came out to see if our meals were ok. Our waitress (Kelly) was fantastic and really made us feel welcome as did the barmen. Will be back again very soon to try the much talked about Sunday roasts! Keep up the good work everyone it’s honestly appreciated!More
