Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were seated in the lower level of the former monastery, and the brick walls and artwork were lovely to behold. A small army of excellent servers made our experience memorable. and the food was absolutely marvelous — a delightful mix flavors. We were surprised...by special tastings three times. Highly recommend!More

The food, service and ambiance cannot be beat! Every time we are in Sorrento, we make sure that we schedule an evening at Il Buco. You are always treated like royalty! We will be back.

I'm not sure where to begin. The food, while beautiful to look at seemed to lack in taste. It was almost as if they forgot salt in several of the dishes. We ordered the tasting menu and the food was good just not quite as...flavorful as what I had expected. The service was attentive in the beginning but toward the end of the meal became very slow which is normal in Italy but this was slower than other restaurants we visited in Sorrento. We saw others receive their bill and depart while we waited. Another kind of odd phenomenon and in my opinion rude was that the chef came out to say hello to every table except ours. This felt purposeful and I don't know if they don't like Americans or what the reason could have been but it made for a negative experience. If I had it to do all over again I would probably skip Il Buco.More

We had a perfect meal in a perfect, romantic setting. We chose the a la carte approach rather than the fixed price dinner, which turned out to be a fine choice. In addition to the things we ordered, the chef kept sending us little goodies...which I suspect would have been part of the fixed price meal. Service was outstanding...subtle, ever helpful. We ate outdoors on the terraced walkway down to the restaurant...a private nook, lovely weather. Great experience! The place fills up, so getting reservations in advance is highly recommended.More

Two stars is relative to the expectation one has from a restaurant with a Michelin star. It felt like a perfectly solid four-star-hotel restaurant pretending to be something much more. We had the seafood tasting menu. It was perfectly fine but uninspired -- nothing special...and not what one expects from any Michelin recommended restaurant, much less one with a star. Service was attentive but unpolished--waiters bumping the table, one spilling drinks on the table, unfamiliar people delivering food. A disappointment. I'd recommend skipping this one.More

A little difficult to find at first. 200 ft from the throng of tourist and traffic. Quiet rustic spot among Sorrento’s castle walls. Top level service, top quality food.

While the bread was the best bread we have eaten in Italy, the remainder of the food was very disappointing. Every dish lacked flavor and depth, despite the presentation being beautiful. Staff was welcoming and environment is very enchanting, but would recommend going elsewhere.

Really looking forward to this restaurant but whilst it’s lovely decor and service we’re good, the food was sort of fine but missed the mark on occasions. The cases in point were the risotto starter and the beef cheek, the former lacking much taste and...the latter was nearly cold, when clearly it should have been hot. They replaced the marginally warm main with replacement that was a little warm, which I guess was better than nothing. The deserts were better. I am disappointed they didn’t hit the mark.More

This was the best restaurant in Sorrento - that we found, anyway! The food was superb: good quality ingredients beautifully cooked and presented well. There was a complexity of flavours which I found really interesting and very satisfying. The service was superb - efficient but...not overbearing, and at no point did we feel ignored or rushed. We actually ate here twice in the week we were in Sorrento - the first time, I asked for help with local wine and the maitre d chose a well-priced (not expensive!) wine which was delicious! The second time, I asked for a bottle of the same wine and they went to huge lengths to find the right one! It was hugely appreciated and was just one more way that we were made to feel special. Incidentally, the wine list was really good, with a whole range of wines from 35 euros upward - I saw a bottle of wine for 1,700 euros in a different, much less good, restaurant in Sorrento! I would recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly - and it was not the most expensive that we tried!More

Disappointed and a missed opportunity. For the the price point one is paying at this resturant every bite and every morsel one puts in their mouth should be delectable and memorable Unfortunately the food was far from this desire. Presentation was good but flavor and...taste was not consistent with the presentation. Overall nothing truly jumped out to make this meal a memorable experience. Amouse Bouche tasted fine but didn't blow my mind. Octopus was perfectly cooked but undersalted; sauce had a nice citrusy flavor. Lobster Saffron pasta was a big let down; flavor was just okay and almost no visible lobster which should be a crime for 35€. Sauce seemed very watery. Sea bass was very standard, cooked well but had no discernible flavor outside of lemon and nothing really special. Bread basket was good, really tasty bread. mocktail was quite nice, and so was wine. The dessert amouse bouche (orange, white chocolate) was a touch too sweet. Hazelnut pear tart did not taste of hazelnut at all and once again a bit too sweet and unbalanced.More

Amazing night. Awesome food. Super staff. 5-star experience. From the minute we arrived, we were welcomed into the restaurant and taken to our table. We were introduced to the menu and taken through many of the food options. Giuseppe also took his time to explain...the origins of our wine choice; very knowledgeable and informative. We selected food from the A-La-carte menu, but there was a tasting menu available. Each course was complimented with a free of charge interlude that the chef had personally created. This added immensely to the overall experience. The head chef was even on hand within the restaurant to explain about the food. What a superb place that we can’t wait to visit again!More

We enjoy very fine dining but tend to stay away from Michelin dining as the restrictions for my preferences are too rigid. However, this is a must do for anyone wanting a far superior dining experience! The staff, the manager, the chef, could not have...given us a more luxurious dining experience in one of the most unique settings we have experienced! Not only do we travel extensively to luxurious places but my partner owns three very upscale resorts in the Caribbean and we would be blessed to have any member of their staff as part of our team! By far one of the best experiences we have encountered!More
