Tonnarello was as good as I remembered. We had an excellent meal here with a group of six, sitting outside on a warm summer’s evening. Trastevere is a fin place to go for dinner because its lively, with any number of little bars and restaurants to choose from. Tonnarello is located in an open, cobbled area with a lot of outdoor setting and a charming atmosphere. Expect to wait for a table. It is popular but both times we have been here, the lines move quickly and staff do a good job of keeping it all running smoothly. TIP - if you are happy to sit inside, you can get a table much more quickly. The food was very good, portions are generous, staff is friendly and welcoming, and overall, its a fun place. I can recommend the Tonnarello Nonna Nadia, with eggplant, olives, tomatoes and capers, served hot in a small saucepan.

Had a great night with Bryan as our server. Staff were multilingual (we heard Italian, English, Spanish), friendly and helpful. Surrounded by people from many different countries. Food was filling with generous portions and $40 cheaper than a similar meal we had earlier in the day. Many people around still around 9-10pm. There was initially what seemed like a long line, but we were seated within 15 minutes as promised by the host outside. People looking to sit inside may need to wait a little more, and it was a little nippy but not intolerable.

Delicious food served by friendly staff at an affordable price - what more can you ask for? (No wonder there always seems to be a queue outside.) Try the tonnarelli pasta with anything. I tried the (unusual for Italy) combination of seafood and cheese - delicious. The carbonara, so I was told, was also excellent. The staff was kind to ensure that only sheep cheese (pecorino) was used in my dish as I am allergic to cow milk protein - much appreciated!

The quality of the food is good, but relatively expensive compared to the type of food served. Me and my partner ordered: one water, one small coke, one “cesto di supplì” (8 servings of small supplì) one carbonara, and one cacio e Pepe. The total was 31 euros. The only thing that annoyed me was that the waiter asked us to give him a good review about the service but when he walked by our table, he mumbled “sto c**** di coso” (this f**** thing) referring to my backpack hanging behind my chair. Given that we were seated outside, I really had no intention of placing my backpack on the floor in the mud. Furthermore, he made us wait a long time for the credit card payment (using the machine) because he wanted to us to first write the review. In fact, when another waiter walked by, we asked him to pay by card, and in the distance I saw the original waiter get the machine. Hence, in summary, the food is good, but the service not so much.

We were recommended this restaurant by a Roman local - and with so many tourist traps in Trastevere, I'm doubly glad we followed her advice. Stopping by on a sunny Friday afternoon, it was evidently popular with locals as well as visitors, but we didn't have too long to wait for a table outside. The staff (including our waiter Alex) were fantastic with my daughter, who was made just as welcome, and offered her colouring (and me tips on how to eat carciofi). The food was fabulous, including classic dishes and some delicious pizza, and somehow we whiled away a couple of hours relaxing, eating and soaking up the atmosphere.

We noticed a massive queue for Tonnarello one day at lunchtime and thought the restaurant would probably be worth checking out if people are willing to wait like that! We headed over for dinner before the lines grew and we arrived just in time. We were seated in a matter of minutes, we had a delicious meal and fantastic service. We sat outside but the inside of the restaurant is large and cozy. We split calamari, an order of carbonara, and a beef dish with roasted potatoes that was amazing. If you go right before the usual lunch or dinner rush you shouldn't have to wait long at all! If you want to eat at normal times just get ready to stand in line.

We had a great lunch here, served by Eugenio who was very helpful and friendly. We didn’t book but they quickly found us a table. We ate a pizza and a salad - portions are very big and great value for money! Ended up spending just €24 for lunch and two coffees.

This place is large and hopping - solid delicious food, very attentive service, and classic dishes make it worth it. Great value for the money. We had the carbonara, Cacio e Pepe, foccacia, calamari, and artichoke. All were excellent. Almost everyone we saw ate pasta, appetizers and salad. Nice wine list. The line is pretty long but interesting people watching during it - and moves at a reasonable clip given the restaurant size. Definitely recommend! The servers really work hard, ours Alessio was awesome!

Unbelievably amazing - couldn’t recommend any more! Our server was fantastic - very friendly, easily catered for our various dietary requirements (vegan, allergies, fussy eaters!) by offering to modify dishes. The food was honestly the best any of us had ever tasted, and was very cheap for what it was! (€7-13 for very large portions of pizza, pasta and a variety of specials). Very popular so be sure to book if you expect to arrive after 6:30

We thought we had gone early enough (around 6:30 pm) to avoid the long line of people who come to eat here and still had to queue for 30 minutes! But, the line moves amazingly fast. The food is good, no need to emphasize - the long line is an indication. They have inside and outside seating areas. The house wine was good and the lasagna as well as the other dishes we ordered were very good.

My wife and I just spent Christmas in Rome in the Trastevere area. One afternoon we were walking back to our apartment and the line for lunch was at least 60-70 people deep. We decided since the line was so long and so close to our apartment that we would go back for dinner. It was a great decision. This place serves great dishes. My wife and I shared the fired squid appetizer. It was cooked perfectly. Just as good as the fried squid you can find while in Naples. My wife enjoyed her carbonara and I went with the cacio e Pepe. Both were very good. We shared the shaved beef and roasted potatoes as our main course. It has to be the olive oil in Rome, because the roasted potatoes are so amazing. By the time we finished our dinner the wait for a table of two was at least 20 people and the wait for table of 3 or more was larger than than. If you are in the Trastevere area, make sure to put this on your list. You won’t be disappointed.

The driver who picked us up from the airport recommended we go to Trastevere to eat, because that is where the locals go. Tonnarello did not disapoint. They initially said there would be a 30 minute wait, but they got us in within 5 minutes. The food was top notch, especially the carbonara. We got two appetizers, drinks, two courses and desert, and spent much less than the previous night when we ate in the middle of the city near our hotel. Eugenio and Maurito took great care of us. The whole experience was what we were looking for.

We were two couples and came for lunch a few days before Xmas holidays. Unfortunately the restaurant doesn't take reservations, so there was a very long queue when we arrived. Nevertheless, when the pr realized that my friend was pregnant they gave us higher priority and after 5 min we were sitting at a table. The peculiarity of this place is that first courses are mainly tonnarello-based, where the name comes from (tonnarello is a very particular type of spaghetti), which are served in pans instead of plates. Needless to say, all the food was supergood, as well as the home-made wine. The waiters are superfun, beyond being super kind and reliable. I'll be back!

Fantastic pasta (we tried the pasta with meatballs and with cheese and pepper), the artichoke was delicious and the wine was great. Above all else the service from Aman (especially) and the rest of the staff were great. 10/10 would recommend to everyone, waiting for a table is absolutely worth it

Went out with friends for a birthday lunch and it was a great experience. The staff was very nice, funny, and accommodating. Our Waiter Ciro explained the menu and gave us recommendations, most of the staff there speaks English. Our waiter even gave us a few Italian lessons! The food was amazing and they even have gluten-free pasta and pizza options. For my friends birthday they brought out a sparkler and 4 shots for us and sang. It was wonderful thanks to Ciro and Paola (: PS. there are lines of people waiting to eat at this place, definitely worth it

Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
