This was an AWFUL experience, and one of the worst meals during our 15 day trip in Italy. We were trying to leave this touristy area to reach another restaurant, when one of their staff was extremely pushy for us to dine there. We exercised poor judgment in accepting as it was getting late, we were starving and he offered... More

Rather noisy, bad acoustic. Staff nice and really tried to correct our complaints but still... The lasange had no meat and just a lot of tomato sauce. The meat (manzo) was overdone and of rather low quality. Insalata mista had canned corn and ineadible black olives with bitter roman sallad. No thanks.

Ending our trip we had spent 5 days in Rome. Having eaten at a number of restaurants we happened on Il Barocco. What a great place! First of all, while we were there a number of locals came in to eat - always a good sign! The service was excellent, atmosphere comfortable and the food delicious. Along with our house... More

This little cafe was very close to our hotel just off Via Nazionale the service was very friendly and efficient. We ordered a bottle of wine which for a cafe was really excellent and at 14 euros not bad so we returned a couple of times then we decided to try the food we ordered spaghetti bolognaise and a pizza... We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday about 1:0 pm. There was only one other person in the restaurant. Two of us ordered pizzas, and two ordered salads. The pizzas both came after a reasonable amount of time but the salads did not arrive for another ten minutes. The pizzas were very tasty, and there were a lot on... More

Funny little place we stumbled upon off Via Nationale. First and foremost, probably sit inside. We sat outside and the side walk was very sloped so after some time you find yourself slding off your chair. Menu is what might be expected and with a good selection of seafood. Try the pasta vongole, it was great as was the whole... More

Good choice as food was without fault and good quick service, Cheap food and reasonably priced drinks. Would recommend a visit to this restaurant if don't want to break the bank and enjoy good food.

Service was fairly good but we weren't impressed with the food. We had two pizzas both of which were ok but had very little meat on them. We also had a side of broccoli and I don't think I've ever had vegetables which were so over cooked. Price was fairly average for the area. 10% service is added to the... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
