in my review last year (May, 2011) I praised this restaurant highly. I went there for dinner in May, 2012 and found it closed. The sign was ambiguous, with no indication as to whether the closing was temporary or permanent. I hope it will re-open, because I always have enjoyed it, but a telephone call first would be a good... More

We visited by chance as we were looking for somewhere to eat on a Sunday evening; by the time we left Rome we'd eaten here 5 times! That should tell you all you need to know. Rome and Italy in general has a reputation for being expensive but this restaurant provided excellent fare for a really good price. As you... More

i have been to Rome close to 100 times, and over the past 10 years have eaten at the Stella Maris every time I have visited. This small restaurant, specializing in Sardinian food, always satisfies, not only me, but my many friends who have asked for a recommendation for a good, inexpensive and truly local restaurant. Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
