We ended up here on our first night of the holiday and had the most perfect carbonara that could not be matched for the entire trip so we finished our trip here before we went to the airport. The atmosphere is so italian and the service to begin with was a bit rudish but they found us a table in... More

An Italian friend had recommended Trattoria dell'Omo years ago, and is a sign of the traditional style of the place that it was as good as he said it was. The quality of the veal was fantastic - my wife had scallopini, my daughter had osso bucco, both marvellous. I had saltimbocca, which was the best I have ever had.... More

Food is great here. Revisited after first trying this place a few years ago. Always full of locals rather than tourists which I always see as a good sign. Good value for money.

You will be scared when you walk in. Amazing food for 25 euros a head. Service is efficient and only friendly once you show appreciation. The grand-mother - looks like yoda, cooks like a god - sometimes checks on the regulars and takes any compliments on the food as granted. Osso-bucco, the best in my life. Tiramisu and pannacotta, world... More

Where to start it was my wife's birthday and our first night in Rome and as fate would have it we found the most wonderful restaurant to celebrate. The food was sensational the atmosphere both romantic and friendly but what made it a perfect night was the service by all the staff especially Elena. My wife Jennifer was so happy... More

It's so near to Termini station and it could be a place for lunch. What you get is home-made style typical local dishes. Most of them are already prepared, you can see them clearly, which makes me feel like eating fast-food. The food is OK, average level, but much better than lots of restaurant around. For me, one pasta with... More

Authentic cooking, very friendly service (reasonable english, though very busy). Had a great carbonara and oxtail mains.

The restaurant was less than half full when we arrived, but we were taken to an ugly storage and supply area in a back corner. Though there were two of us, they could only manage to spare one menu which we could not share in our cramped area. The servers were very rushed when they dealt with us as the... More

When inquiring about authentic Italian food and restaurants, it was suggested we visit here. Indeed, it was very authentic! It seemed a family ran the place and they were incredibly nice. Very laid back. Food was fantastic. The whole feel of the place had a big community vibe. We ended up chatting up a storm and making friends with a... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
