Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is our absolute favorite place for a sandwich in Rome. The location in Testaccio Market is means you'll find a wide variety of Roman dishes made with offcuts and offal. This is a good place to try pajata (veal intestines). They also have sandwiches...for those less adventurous of palate, #1 on the menu is a winner. Mordi e Vai offers that possibility of tasting many dishes in a manageable sandwich portion size. We shared 3 sandwiches between us two both times that we visited because it's just too difficult to stop at one.More

Tried the classic sandwich and it was well worth the rush to get here before they closed for the day. Juicy and succulent meat with some delightfully bitter greens. It's a classic for a reason. It's pretty heavy so you should split it with someone...to avoid filling up before you can try the other stalls.More

My fiancée got one of the pork sandwiches from the Menu. It tastes homemade in the best possible sense. I can see why this place is so popular. It is really hard to find a restaurant meal that really captures the homemade, slow cooked method...and yet this place does it!More

Get the Allessò di Scottona - it’s absolute asporto perfection. They dip half the ciabbata roll in the warm meat juice then top it with the chopped beef and chicory. It’s just delicious. Don’t forget to grab a ticket first - this place is popular...(for a reason)!More

A great spot in the Testaccio market and such a variety of wonderful sandwiches. We ordered one of beef boiled in broth, one shredded beef in tomato sauce, One tripe, one sausage and one veal in Carbonara sauce. Every one was amazing. They are large...sandwiches and at 6 euros each are one of the best culinary bargains in Rome. Now that I found this place, I will never go back to Rome without having a sandwich here. A nice little sitting area too. And the owner is charming.More

The sandwich was incredible - delicious and cheap. This small, simple stall can be found in the Testaccio market - box 15.

I came to this unit in the Testaccio market on the hunt for Alesso di Bollito, a simmered beef sandwich apparently invented at a time when beef was expensive in Rome. I am told that many of the traditional places which make this dish had...disappeared with the exception of Mordi e Vai, which is supposedly the best. I walked around an hour from the other side of Rome to find this place and was not disappointed. The sandwich is beautiful and I do recommend the beef one. They take a slow cooked beef in sauce with veggies and put it in a bun which is itself dipped in the sauce. My vegetarian friend got some artichokes with Parmesan cheese which were also great.More

Incredible!! The stall doesn’t look like much but the sandwich was spectacular. I can’t remember the exact one we had but the meat was so tender and tasty. I would love to have had time to go back!

A great street food experience at the Testaccio market. It's a bit away frombthe centre but it's cheap, the food is delicious and real Roman and the service is efficient and very fast. You can also do your food shopping in the market and enjoy...a glass of prosecco in the same complex at the wine shop.More

Can't recommend this place enough. 4.5 euro for his signature sandwich with some fantastic braised pulled meat. Quite a crowd at most times, which makes a lot of sense. We saw this getting recommended almost everywhere, but the sandwich speaks for itself. It's amazing, and...the place is charming situated inside a marketplace. Aso, he honestly looked like he were living his best life making those sandwiches. 5/5, don't miss it when coming to RomeMore

These sandwiches are incredible! I went with a few friends to grab a panino after hearing them describe their previous experience as "the best sandwiches ever." The sandwiches on offer pay homage to Roman cuisine, and I appreciated the wild variety of what is on...offer, which suited our crowd, ranging from a bit conservative (me) to very adventurous eaters. I greatly enjoyed the Allesso di scottona sandwich (pulled beef), which is their #1 selling sandwich. I got the sandwich and a bottle of water for just 5 euro! So delicious!More

Testaccio market is fantastic and this place is amazing... Their choices are wide ranging. We had pajata di vitello and scottona alla macellara in a big bread bun. Food on the go at its best, you can sit there of course. Just do it

I still think about the tripe panino I had at Mordi e Vai. It was wonderfully tart and chewy. Fortunately, I was able to sample the Scottona as well. Brilliant, fresh panini and an incredibly friendly family running the place make a great combination.
