Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great dinner spot that was recommended to us by our local guide from a food tour we took. The place was busy and full of locals, yet the staff squeezed us in on a busy Saturday night and made us feel at home. The food...was excellent, particularly the cacio e pepe and tiramisu, and the prices were extremely reasonable.More

Very disappointed! We have read many good reviews of this restaurant but we were quite underwhelmed with the food - the exception being the stuffed zucchini flower antipasto which was very good. The porcini mushroom antipasto was tasty however my rigatoni with oxtail came with...a very bland tomato sauce and a tiny piece of oxtail. My husband wanted to pork shank but it was sold out. Unusual after an hour of opening! The waiter suggested a a stuffed rolled meat which was tasteless. The staff were lovely and the wine excellent. Interesting to note, the people next to use had a similar experience. They liked their pasta dish but found their veal dish tough. If you do go, stick to the pasta without tomato sauce!More

My friend and I had the best experience at Osteria, we were in Rome for 3 night and came to this restaurant twice. Our waiter Daniele went above and beyond and was so amazing that we came back again. The pasta was beautiful and the...atmosphere was great. Highly recommend.More

I was in Rome for 3 months (March-May 2023) and I ate at Zi Umberto about 8 times ... on my own and with friends. I can't speak highly enough of this wonderful osteria. I was introduced by a local (thanks Jo!) who took me...there the first time and we also dined there several further times together with other locals, but I also had lunches and dinners on my own and with Australian friends who were passing through Rome. Every single occasion was an absloute delight. Alessandro, Brando, Vanni, Phillipe and all the guys in the team are the most hospitable, generous, ebullient and downright funny people you could wish to meet. They took great care of me every time I was there. And every time I took guests there they absolutely loved it. And the food matches the hospitality; the gricia and carbonara pastas are outstanding (better than Roscioli in my opinion) but all the food is wonderful. What about the day they had a plate of coratella (my personal favourite) that they dished out generously from a huge platter on request. Brilliant! And the house wines are delicious and great value. And as for the very generous distribution of the local Nerone amaro and limoncello ... what a way to finish the meal! Finally, this place is OUTSTANDING value for money. I expressed my heartfelt thanks to the guys when I begrudgingly left Rome to return to Australia but "thank you once again guys for taking such good care of me and for making my time in Rome so memorable. I am already planning my return trip so I hope to see you all again soon". Cheers GoffredoMore

We go here every time we visit Rome. The staff are brilliant, funny and very helpful. This time we let them choose our dishes and they took time to explain them and even help us with our pronunciations. Food is excellent as always, decent value...and amazing location.More

To be honest the dinner was a bit disappointed, I expected a bit more special the dishes of pasta . There were a lot of waitresses but they do not pay atention to you , you needed call them if you needed anything sometime twice....The space between the tables was very small and you do not have privacy.More

Food is fine for those looking for Roman no-frills cooking: Basic, honest, and pretty much what you want from an unpretentious corner restaurant in Trastevere, Rome. The pasta is good, as is the straightforward peppered beef. What is not good, or flat out bad, is...the sour attitude from its owner?/manager who sits on a 'throne' at the cash register in the middle of the restaurant. Overseeing it all, visibly unpleased, and unfriendly left and right. We felt very uncomfortable and will thus not return.More

Our experience at Zi Umberto was simply refreshing, a taste of the most incredible local roman cuisine at a very accessible price. IS this still a possibility today? Yes test it and then you will agree with me.Buon appetito!

Delicious food with quick service! I devoured the fried zucchini. Pasta Amatriciana and Carbonara were heavenly. We heard mostly Italian at the other tables.

We had only one night in Rome, coming back from the Amalfi Coast, and told our Concierge we wanted to eat authentic Roman food. She made reservations here. What a delightful evening, filled with fantastic starters (we were lucky to be there in artichoke season),...delicious Roman pastas, and desserts. We sat outside and watched Roman life, with the families, couples in love and friends, come to life in an amazing street scene. Unmissable and would go again and again if I lived there. Such a perfect evening. Please note if you are American: this is an Osteria, meaning they specialize in wine (no cocktails). They are high volume and built for people who get eating in Roman restaurants--speed and knowledge are at a premium in ordering so be alert, don't expect fawning service, and don't complicate things with a lot of special requests. What you will get is a true experience in Rome that I worried might be gone. Pay attention and enjoy.More
