This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend who promised good food and an even better story. Frankly, she knew I couldn't resist a restaurant located in an ancient synagogue and a tour of a wine cellar. She was right. We understood what we should expect and that is exactly what we got: a good story, well executed food and... More

SERVICE * Inappropriate owner. Too loquacious about his own buisiness, just a little about the story of the building. Intrusive, repetitive, banal; FOOD *** Good, not excellent; PLACE ** Pale yellow walls in the world most ancien synagogue. How to thrash history; ATMOSPHERE * Grotesque. I was there for a romantic dinner: the owner interrupted us while we were eating... More

This restaurant was just a few doors down from the apartment we were staying in and was a wonderful surprise. Amazing food, wonderful host and such a venue steeped in history. Definitely a highlight of our trip and the best restaurant we visited.

I had been looking forward to eating at this restaurant during my many visits to Rome and was excited to experience what everyone has told me was a great dining experience, unfortunately we had a very unpleasant experience. It was raining heavily but we bared the bad weather and arrived at the front door of the restaurant only to be... More

An interesting family-run place with a long history but not touristy - has a local feel, hidden down a backstreet - and very friendly, colourful staff. Food was generally very good - fairly traditional with a bit of a twist. Also a good choice of wine, as you'd expect from the place's name, if that's your thing.

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
