Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The service was bad and the food sushi was worse. The salmon is generic salmon, not fresh. The rice was not good quality. If you love sushi do not eat at this restaurant.

The Hanasei restaurant fine dining offers very authentic Japanese food and consistently good service. We found ourselves returning for a second time during our stay in Rome. Having enjoyed ourselves the first time, we invited some friends to join us for a special dinner. The...cold soba and tempura was a big hit with our group.More

We went there with my son but were completely disappointed by the sushi’s. Strangely, they did not have some of the most known sushi’s and the rice was not tasty. Considering the price, it is disappointing

So we wanted to try Asian food in Rome and went for a visit at Hamasei. But already in the door we should have turned. WIth neon light and bad service this visit did not meet our expectations. Also tried to go to the restroom,...but was stopped by an angry old man (owner?) I do not understand how they can have gotten a Michelin star in 2017. The food was OK, but not more.More

All in all a good visit. Felt like authentic Japanese food even though the meat was from Denmark. Prices were okay. The only reason I don't give it a 5/5 is because of the waiter who literally stood right next to our table for 5-10...straight while we were deciding what to order.More

Nicely decorated with a decent layout of tables without being crowded. Average taste, not strictly authentic. Try Shiroya if looking for a bit more authentic taste. Close to busy shopping/sightseeing areas, convenient.

Dinner at Hamasei last night. Excellent and courteous service, as always. Green Pass or equivalent was carefully checked, diners were spaced apart throughout the restaurant, all staff always wore masks. Started with an amuse bouche of chicken, followed by an excellent tofu dish as well...as a delicious eggplant. Very good, light tempura, followed by a variety of sushi, and a dessert. Along with a bottle of wine, dinner for two was about 125 euros. Highly recommended.More

We were very excited to come here since it had lots of our favorites all in one place (most places in Rome dont have fried chicken, sushi, tempura, edamame AND soba all in one) However, this place as beautiful and nice as it may be,...falls short. The fried chicken was average, the sushi had a lot of rice so it was difficult to really taste the flavor of the fish. The tempura was okay not overbearing in fried so that’s good. And the sashimi was good (can’t go wrong with raw fish in a good Japanese place - we hope) We didn’t have the edamame and soba this time. Maybe we’ll go back to try the soba but nothing else really. What was also strange was we couldn’t finish our sushi and asked to take it home and the waiter said it wasn’t possible. However, when we asked for the bill via a waitress she asked if we wanted to take away the sushi and that it WAS possible... Overall an okay experience but I wouldn’t come back - unless to try the soba noddles since it is so different to find in RomeMore

I’ve not eaten Japanese food in London, Paris or New York so I’m obviously no expert on authentic Japanese cuisine, unlike some other reviewers. However my Asian wife has eaten it a lot and she enjoyed the food here, as did I. Everything was excellent,...even the background baroque music (especially the music), the space, the cleanliness, the service, and as good as any Japanese food I have eaten in other parts of the world.More

Located not far away from Spanish Steps and is only 15 minutes from the hotel I stayed. Not a very small restaurant and has a bar counter area near the entrance. We visited two times in a week. Decoration is a modern style. We ordered...chu toro sushi, tenpura, yakiniku, udon and white rice. Eating maguro (tuna) is very common in Japan. To test whether the restaurant is good or not, trying the maguro gives you some hint. Toro here is above general standard outside of Japan given the price tag. They also provide free appetizer before the meal starts. Generally food portion is reasonable, taste is above average comparing to most Japanese restaurants outside Japan.More

Our family dinner has been enlightened by the fresh and graciously prepared ingredients. Everything one of us has eaten at Hamasei was activating well being feelings. Each single dish was embedded in a japanese small scenario:a place, a colour, a flower, one shape ..unforgettable harmony...of interior landscapes, of flavors and tastes .the elegance of cooking and presenting, the infinite kindness of all the Hamasei staff that opened the doors to the magic of japanese culture. Gochisou-samadeshita!More
