The experience at Maharaja Restaurant was average. The food was okay, but one concern was their practice of bringing miscellaneous items to the table without asking and then charging for them. This lack of transparency was disappointing and could be improved by informing customers beforehand. Better communication would enhance the dining experience.

Welcomed by the excellent friendliness of the lady (I think) owner, we were guided in the choices and tastings of their delicacies. Everything was very good, from the appetizer to the main courses, accompanied by the beautiful and fragrant Indian atmosphere and the family welcome of the lady. We will definitely be back.

I went to this restaurant for Valentine's Day, and I received an excellent welcome. We ate really great food, very, very good. The service was excellent and, I repeat, very welcoming. And each dish served was explained to us in detail, so that we knew what was inside since it was a cuisine that we did not know and to discover.

I went to this place with my girlfriend for Valentine's Day dinner a few hours ago. Nothing to say about the cuisine, the service needs to be reviewed. The waiters are friendly but don't know the language well, as a result, there were some communication problems. They brought us what we had ordered in a single dish without informing us that they were dishes to be shared for two and not for a single person. The portions are small for what they cost (€10 for two chicken thighs and €4 for a small plate of simple basmati rice).

The biggest problem with this restaurant is the quantity of food you get for the high price you pay. If you order any starter, you get only 3-4 pieces. The quantity of the biryani was very little which will not be enough even for a kid. They charge more and provide less. The service wasn't great either. They are more interested in treating the locals or regulars but not the Indian customers like us. Not sure why.

The cuisine is Indian and the staff is Indian. The restaurant, which boasts a glorious past, is set in the Monti district, in the beautiful Via dei Serpenti. And that's where the positives end. Dishes (chicken densen, samosa, paneer pakora and vindaloo lamb) are generally tasty, without major imperfections, except for some condiments and cooking methods which are a little sweet. The prices remain average, but - perhaps thanks to the expectations raised by those who had recommended it to us on several occasions - there remains an underlying disappointment for flavors that could have been more refined. "Cheese nan" and "plain nan" do not shine: the first because it is too greasy, the second because it is almost tasteless. The "Nan peshwari" is saved, with a pleasant fragrance and the taste of dried fruit (it was worth the wait). Even the classic ice cream (kulfi), five euros, is fine, but it doesn't shine in flavors or smells. Other desserts on the menu were not available: we were not informed in advance, but only when ordering. We had to remind the cashier, who had forgotten, to issue, in addition to the courtesy copy, also the "sales or service tax document". It's unfortunate because a restaurant that is now an institution in the Indian cuisine scene in Rome really shouldn't have certain oversights and could guarantee better quality cuisine.

As South Africans, we are spoilt for choice with great flavourful food in our country so to say that Maharaja exceeded our expectations by delivering authentic Indian cuisine - is highly commendable. As a Vegetarian, options were abundant and food was delicious. Hubby ordered the Kheema Masala and really enjoyed it. Staff were amazing and friendly. Definitely recommend 👌

We visited Maharajah Restaurant in Rome as a couple and were absolutely delighted! The food was excellent – perfectly spiced, authentic, and full of flavor. The variety of dishes was impressive, and the naan bread and curries were definite highlights. The atmosphere was pleasant and quiet, making it perfect for a relaxed evening for two. A special mention goes to the quick service – both the food and the staff were prompt, without compromising on quality. A wonderful experience overall – we will definitely be back!

Do yourself a favor and give this place a skip. I don’t know where the “good” reviews are coming from… this place is disgusting. From the outside there is a tacky green sign, and when you enter it’s small and stuffy. Once seated, the menus are sticky, like they haven’t been cleaned; so you can imagine how hygienic this place must be. Because it was my mom’s birthday we couldn’t risk leaving and hoped the food may be the saving grace. However that was not the case. Nothing had flavor. Our Tandoori Paneer was undercooked. The eggplant (bhartha) was blended. And the dal tadka bland. Once we got our food, and took a few bites, trying to not entirely ruin my moms birthday, we were out as fast as we could be. People certainly dine here. Tables were full inside and out; but I suspect they don’t know any better.

I don't report the names of the dishes, I might make a bad impression. However, I highly recommend this restaurant. Let yourself be advised by the staff, who are very kind and efficient. We recommend, as suggested, ordering several dishes to place in the center and share. In my opinion one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever tried. Advised.

Last time I ate at the Maharajah was back in 2010 when I was last in Rome and I'm pleased to report it's still the best Indian in Rome. The atmosphere, service ambience and food just can't be beat. The staff have always been friendly and welcoming at the Maharajah, one of the waiters even remembered me from ten years ago!. As I sat down a glass of complimentary chilled prosecco was bought to my table, a nice touch. I started with a couple of nice crispy poppadums ( two euros) cooked to perfection and for my main course had chicken vindaloo (nine euros) and plain rice (four euros). The chicken vindaloo unlike many other Indian restaurants I've been to in Rome actually use breast meat, which tastes so much better than thigh meat. The vindaloo sauce was excellent and very spicy. The cool refreshing Kingfisher (six euros fifty cents) was most welcome. My bill came to twenty one euros and fifty cents which for food of this quality is very good value. I visited the Maharajah three more times on this trip to Rome and will definitely be back next time I return to Rome.

Found this place and thoroughly enjoyed an excellent dinner tonight. Great service with a nice relaxing atmosphere. All the dishes were excellent, flavourful with good portions and the best vegetable briyani I have had. Highly recommended

Can't believe we just chanced upon this fabulous restaurant!! It is , hands down, the best place to have Indian vegetarian food - Dilli wala❤️ The Rajasthani ambience , with lip smacking preparations, melodious Bollywood music and many God statues , especially of Lord Ganesha & courtesied staff creates a magnificent memory . Must go place !!
