Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

First sushi spot to open in Milan. Has maintained its authenticity throughout the decades. Great menu offer. Big fan of their chirashi: while in lots of places they give you much rice and little fish, here cannot complain. Good price/ quality ratio.

If you arrive late, this restaurant will be packed, as we experienced. But the busy status doesn't affect the staff's attention to customers. They're proactive and professional. With my limited language skills and unfamiliar ordering style, I was assisted and given recommendations patiently. From Chirashi...to Sukiyaki, everything is excellent. The Chirashi's fish slices are fresh with excellent knife work, and the rice is well-seasoned. The Sukiyaki broth is specially made and not just from pre-made mixtures. A place to deliberately visit for its top-notch dishes or even consider as a regular dining spot due to its value for money.More

I have been coming to Koma (now Shiro) and Poporoya since 1993. Having lived in Asia for 10 years and just moved back a few months ago I was hoping to find some of the old vibe and decent food and I found neither. Yes...it’s always been a high turnover, no frills and good value for money, long queue place - but not with plastic tables outside and an obnoxious shouting waiter that behaves like in a fish market and forgets every other item on your order. One could pass on this, but the food quality is abysmal compared to both what used to be, and to remotely decent standing sushi/kaitenzushi grade Japanese fare. One wonders how a Japanese cook (because he is) would ever prepare a chirashi where rice is not shari but a blurb of heavily seasoned (with what?) risotto rice. Sushi and sashimi are thickly cut, I mean almost 1 cm, what is this. Gyoza have none of the balance and flavour you’d expect. The only satisfying thing in the entire experience was the asahi beer. You will notice the vast majority of 5 stars reviews are by Italians; not anyone’s fault of course but having tried multiple Asian restaurants in Milan I’ve come to the conclusion that It’s almost impossible to find decent authentic Asian food and therefore, people just have no clue of what good tastes like. And I’m not comparing this to Japan - this doesn’t even come close to a random sushi chain in Australia or London. Unless your reference point is what Italians call “all you can eat” ie Chinese run sushi joints IN ITALY, avoid.More

I loved everything in this restaurant. WE started with Edamame, Gyoza and aa delicious octopus cooked and marinated. As main course I had Hokkai -Don a bowl with rice and raw salmon, cuttlefish, shrimp, scallop. Fish was fresh and excellent quality. Service could be improved....Worth price.More

Poporoya is one of the first and most famous sushi restaurants in Milan, unluckily nowadays there is nothing left of the past glory. Leaving aside the service and the ambience (shabby outdoor tables, plastic plates...), the food is totally decayed from what it used to...be. The restaurant manages a huge volume of take away business thus in the end undermining the quality. Sushi is at supermarket level, it had been visibly prepared hours before and kept in the fridge, indeed it was served 30 sec after our order. The tempura was ok even if very oily. "Special remark" for the uramaki which they were full of sauce covering any flavour and the tuna chunks were visibly dark and old. Price wise you spend 30/35 euros for an abundant meal including beer, so it's rather on the medium/cheap side for Milan standards, but for this low quality nowadays you can go to any of the 10000 Chinese all you can eat places.More

In general the service is good and the portions are correct. It's traditional and the flavor is excellent. The thing is that I find it a bit expensive compared to other sushi places in Milan. Yeah, people like to say "this is not an all...you can eat", but being an all you can eat or a traditional japanese restaurant is not always a synonym of being good or bad. I can find sushi as excellent as this one for a lower price in a few (very few) places in the city. Still, it was a nice experience.More

This place is amazing! I have been in the Poporoya restaurant and is five star sushi, but if you prefer something faster, authentic I would advise the Poporoya Sushi bar in the same street! Is a very tiny place but so original. You can't book...the table but the queue is quick! You will feel like in Japan!More

One of my best sushi experiences so far. Incredible quality for the price, quick service and polite staff. It is not your typical relaxing restaurant experience, probably better for a quick lunch or takeaway.

Hoping for a good Japanese food during our visit in Milan. Found this location due to reviews from Tripsadvisor and could not be more disappointed. We could be too spoilt with Japanese food selection in LA but this establishment does not even come close to...a neighborhood Japanese restaurant in Southern California. Ordered the most basic KatsuDon and Chirashi bowl and chicken was dry and the rice in the Chirashi Bowl was not even sushi rice! That was the biggest disappointment that we had when we had the Chirashi Bowl. I was craving for some asian food after so many days of traveling in Italy and I was thoroughly disappointed. If this is one of the better Japanese food in Milan, then I think Milan needs to step up the international food game! Definitely would not recommend coming here for those who are looking for comforting and delicious Japanese food.More

No better place for a fast truly tasty giap. Do not miss the chirashi. Must be but do not consider it a restaurant... It is a Small crowded crazy hidden treasure since years in Milano. Thank you Shiro.

A tiny place but the first sushi place in Milan, the food is fantastic and genuine despite the tiny casual setting! You have to go in, order and then grab a seat squashed against your neighbour but that's the fun and charm of this amazing...little place. They also do take away and have outside seating. The also sell ingredients to make your own Japanese food at home.More

My daughter wanted sushi and I wanted authentic. So we ended up in this bustling place in which one squeezes in and orders and is subsequently led to a small table when space permits as soon as the order is ready. Fresh, delicious, prepared with...care, and I think with love too because from behind the counter the sushi chef tries to catch diners' eyes and is always happy to receive a complement. Come here for the exceptional sushi, not for the atmosphere unless you (like me) like this kind of urban animation. You won't be disappointed.More
