Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We found this little gem while hiking around Merano. Excellent food, in particular the pasta with truffles and grilled vegetables. The absolute highlight was the self produced Pinot Grigio from the adjacent wine yards. Superb setting and fantastic service. Highly recommended

Really nice and friendly place. Relaxed vibe. Were there with group of 6 including children. Called upfront and had a nice table on the first floor terrace with an amazing view. Food was great as well. Worth the climb!

The view from the terrace at Saxifraga is really worth the (short) climb up the Tappeiner Weg. And although you still get the buzz coming up from Merano, a very busy town, it's all below you and you can sit and enjoy the view without...the constant sound of traffic. The food is good - the Schlutzkrapfen were proper and homemade - and the reception we got on arrival and throughout our lunch was friendly - they really couldn't do enough for us. Why only 4 stars? Well, it's expensive for what you get, but then everything in Meran comes at a cost. But at least here you get good South Tyrolean food and wonderful South Tyrolean hospitality with the added benefit of lunch with a view. Recommended.More

Such a beautiful building and gorgeous view. Sitting on the terrace and just admiring the Etschtal on a sunny day is a must. For my liking, prices are bit too steep.....Wine and prosecco should be served with nibbling etc too

Found Saxifragra as a very welcome oasis on a day that turned out much warmer than we expected. A friendly, comfortable oasis with a great view and the occasional cooling breeze. Very nice. Food was good too: I had a (variation on a) Caprese salad,...with excellent, milky, nutty Mozzarella. Tomatoes were less good. But the highlight was the bread "on the side": with a variety of flavours, peppers seeds and spices. Good flavour too in the Haus Bier. Refreshed and relaxed, we are ready for the Road againMore

A must visit when staying in Merano. Beautiful location , sitting on the terrace on a glorious sunny day overlooking the valley does not get much better. Food is excellent and is perfectly accompanied by wine from the owners own vineyards ( delicious Chardonnay) ....Staff very friendly and extremely accommodating , pasta with chanterelles was to die for. We enjoyed the food so much that we returned again that week.More

There are two Saxifragas - Kurhaus and Stub'n. Kurhaus is in the city center while Stub'n sits above with a wonderful view. It is a hike but well worth it. They are open for dinner on Wed, Fri, and Sat. We sat on the veranda...-- dumplings appetizer, turkey wienerschnitzel -- a very pleasant evening.More

The Saxifraga lies above Meran on the Tappeinerweg, a famous promenade that already my great grandparents walked on. The food is authentic in a nice atmosphere. It has a beautiful view.

Walking along the Tappeinerweg high over Meran is spectacular in itself...then to find such a wonderful place for a break and lunch is special. Excellent food, sitting out on the terrace looking around, the Dolomites and other mountain ranges, everywhere is amazing. A beautiful, old building with an amazing view over Merano and the valley. It would be the perfect place for a light lunch or a drink. Sadly it is grossly overpriced. Admittedly I have only had a tea, but at over 5 Euro, I thought...that adding a pastry would have been just extravagant. Yes, it was a loose leave tea and it even had a minute biscuit, but still..........More

Yeah, it is a bit of a climb, but Saxifraga is very much worth the effort. With a seasonal menu that changes frequently, and a focus on local food producers, it'd be hard to go wrong. And then there are the views over Merano and...the valley - simply the best place to have lunch.More

Visited twice, both times when they were cooking outdoors to order. Really friendly, good food, reasonable value, good location. All in all worth going, and worth returning. Probably our equal top restaurant location in Merano - from our trip at least!

This restaurant makes sure you leave with a smile. Whether it is sunny or raining, you can always eat outside at the large terrace. Food and wine are great. Service with a smile and good knowledge of the wine.
