Hotel recommendation for dinner was a success. Good variety of mid range entrees with nice starters. Helpful and friendly staff that helped navigate the menu and drink options. Before 6 pm primarily a bar with light meals. Close to San Marco.

Rarely I send back food. This restaurant was an exception. I ordered a frittura that turned out not fit to be eaten. Disgusting concoction of heavily fried frozen fish. The first time in my life that I have seen mussels and clams fried! Please avoid!

Service was average at best. Food below average - I have made better bruschetta myself (and I'm Australian). Arancini balls had no flavour, we're not fresh and barely warm. Avoid!

Not fishy as in strange, fish as in fish... Lots of fish. I like fish so loved it, my wife not so much. The meat balls and rice ball was fab.

The food wasn't bad, in fact it was good; but all the food I had in a month of traveling Italy was good. So, food was nothing special. Service wasn't bad, but it was not good either. Can't even say it was average because I probably had better, certainly more friendly service everywhere I ate in that same month. Aciugheta... More

We stopped here because of a previous visit and we were in need of refreshment. The service was slow and they certainly preferred the locals....had a drink, nearly finished by the time we got to order chicchetti and the waiter eventually brought them over....great place to stop just before San Marco and all ok but should be better.

We ate at Aciugheta for convenience, as it was right outside our hotel. I don't know about other hotels, but we stayed at Tiepolo, and the front desk said we would get a 10% discount if we mentioned we were staying there. We didn't ask for the discount, but it might be a handy tip for somebody else! We had... More

We had read about this place and set out to find it. After walking past it three times, somebody pointed it out. Friendly service, nice day to sit outside. Wanted anchovies since that's what the name means. Not many dished on the menu. We had tapas for lunch and all were tasty. The menu had a price for selecting six.... More

This is a typical Venetian place, not touristy at all. They have various cicchetti, but they are not the type you see in most places. More seafood based. They have really good wine, and very decent food for a neighborhood place. Right across the alley is Il Ridotto, a Michelin starred place. The chef who owns Aciugheta owns Il Ridotto.... More

I was in the mood for a light dinner, and this sidewalk restaurant looked inviting. I ordered the Pizza Marinara, which our waiter reminded me had no cheese -- but that he could add mozzarella, and I asked him to. It was great. My wife had the antipasto, which she said was fine -- a couple of glasses of wine,... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
