Extremly nice restaurant! Great location at a calm street in a pretty neighbourhood. Friendly waitor, really good and well cooked food. Nice semifreddo for desert! I would highly recommend this restaurant for anybody visiting Venice who likes to get away from the overcrowded touristy streets for a while.

Found by accident, near the Hotel Elena... It was like we'd left the Disneyland of Venice and wandered down the coast to a tiny seaside village... limited menu, daily specials, best seafood we ate during a three day prowl around Venice.

We were staying in a cute place on San Pietro and had asked our host for a good place to have dinner. Good thing we did, because we were very delighted by this authentic place! It is family-owned and the owners make you feel like you're part of the family as well. We had delicious baked fish and a strawberry... More

This restaurant was a real find...away from the crowds of tourists and full of local people. We went there for lunch before going to watch Venezia FC play their Sunday afternoon fixture. Food of excellent quality at very reasonable prices. We hadn't booked, but were lucky to take the last free table. All the staff were very welcoming.

Like others we were staying round the corner at the Hotel Sant'Elena and came upon this charming restaurant, run by an all-female team of Mum and daughters. Even though we hadn't booked they accommodated us - we did get on on 3 nights without booking, but if you are more than 2 it is probably advisable to make a reservation.... More

We ate here on the last evening of our trip. This a a family run establishment in the residential area of Sant Elena. Reservations are recommended as it is very popular and has only about twelve tables. It was fully booked on the evening we visited. Our starters comprised grilled sardines and spaghetti with clams. The two mains were calamari and meat... More

This is one of the only real restaurants in the area and if you are staying nearby and its raining you dont have much choice. Busy little place with limited tables mainly for couples. I suggest to reserve if you intend going here especially if you are more than 2. Food was pretty average am afraid for the price (2... More

We found this place as we were staying in the local Hotel Sant Elena. Very well-cooked food with a good priced and tasty range of wines (I normally take the vino di casa and it was good). Cheap, for Venice, but the service, food and people were great. If you can, pop around and book a table, as it does... More

Fabulous meal - we had sarde in saor and warm octopus and potato salad to start (delicious), followed by the evening special of osso bucco, which was spectacular. A side of chicory, dessert of liquorizia panna cotta plus coffee and grappa. And the house red was one of the nicest we have had in Venice. A great meal, excellent service... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
