Had an ok dinner here with my husband. Bit on pricey side 80 euros for two mains, one dessert & bottle of wine. He had escalope Milanese & I had taglieta steak with balsamic vinegar, we shared a ricotta cheesecake with a bottle of red merlot. The food was lovely & our waiter perfectly nice but they don't have house... More

We ate here twice on our 5 days in Venice. The venue is enchanting although in the evenings in March the garden was not open. Some of the attached reviews do not do this lovely restaurant justice. On our first night we ate delicious seafood platters (two between four people) including all the local fish market delicacies; followed by seafood... More

We loved eating here from the moment we walked in and welcomed by the owner and his very dedicated team in a very atmospheric former chapel (lovely gardens for outdoor dining in better weather). Delicious Venetian style food, good menu, not just fish, and broad range of wines to suit all tastes and wallets. Would thoroughly recommend. Thank you.

Food was good, although it came in small portions. Problem with this place is the terrible service. Firstly, waiters are not keen to recommend their food choices and took annoyance to what should be an exciting affair to explain your restaurant's food. Secondly, waiters were always walking past our table right in the center of the room and avoided eye... More

The food was all superb. Fried fish, scallops, sea bass & of course the pasta is good. Very friendly and helpful staff. My only word of warning. If you feel the cold, as I do and you get seated by the door (only table free) you might need a thicker jacket. I kept my coat on.

When I wrote my report two years ago I said that, when next in Venice, I would visit this restaurant again. Two years on, there were eight of us, including two children and we were celebrating a big birthday of one of the aunts. When booking, I had asked if a birthday cake could be arranged; despite the relatively short... More

The fish is good, but the portions are far too small for the price. Sorry but this is fine only if you are on a diet or if you are a (rich) gnome.

Prompt and fast service, very tasty food. The place was highly recommended by our Pellegrino hotel concierge and it initially seemed suspect for being so highly popular within venetian hotel workers, as many reviewers here stated before me. But the food was perfect. Very tasty and perfectly cooked, not in big sizes. We went for the beans soup, carbonara and... More

Recommended by Luca and Marco from Hotel Bisanzio since it is frequented with local Venetian's. The staff was fantastic in providing recommendation for appetizers and the wine. By far the best food in Venice. The alia olio pasta was cooked El dente with a hint of spice. The flavours melted our pallet. Since it was a rainy evening we kept... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
