Looking back on our week in Venice, this was our best dinner. We shared an antipasti of shrimp on chicory, then soft shell crab and mixed fried local seafood with a homemade potato chips plus a nice Malavasia. Simple but really good.

Off the beaten track in Venice, this small restaurant takes pride in not offering tourist fare (see Rick Stein's "Venice to Istanbul" TV programme). It only has 10-12 tables so reservations are essential and allow an extra 10 mins or so to your journey time to find it but trust me - it is worth it. My Wife had beef... More

Had a superb experience here on my 60th birthday ten years ago, and had hoped for the same for my 70th. We were to be disappointed The food is still excellent, but has the restaurant changed hands? The service was rather abrupt and confused - too many on the floor. The family atmosphere from 10 years ago was gone. We... More

We were recommended this by hotel. Food was lovely and service great. It was quite expensive over 100 euro for 2 courses and a half bottle of wine.

This off the beaten track restaurant offers wonderful fish biased menu superbly cooked and served. The wine list takes several pages more than the food menu but the staff are attentive and caring. Simple surroundings but food to die for!

Superb Venetian cuisine in a tiny deserted back alley of Venice...and this is good because if people get lost or give up looking, this fabulous secret of a restaurant will not become even more popular, and I might just manage to get a table on my next visit. Charming service, amazing food and all set in the hustle and bustle... More

We had a lovely lunch here. I called on the phone ahead of time to reserve. We also had no issues finding the restaurant with google maps app. Standout dish was an appetizer of grilled octopus with mushrooms in a delicious sauce. Incredible!! Stayed for hours without issue. I can see that it may not be everyone's cup of tea... More

This is my second review of this wonderful place. The last (unfortunately) was 5 years ago, but it only gets better. It is hard to find, and they don't take reservations by email or on their website, but once you call for the reservation and find the place (we made a dry run in the morning light), it is such... Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
