We consulted TA again for our last night in Venice. Not far from our hotel, this restaurant ticked the boxes. Venetian cuisine, good reviews and a short walk. Actually that's all it was! We booked beforehand yet we were enthusiastically greeted by a smiling guy touting for business on the door. He rushed us inside to an audience of almost... More

I came here at the recommendation of our hotel when I asked about having authentic Venetian cuisine. When we arrived, the restaurant looked empty only to realize that everyone went to the back of the restaurant to dine outdoors facing the quiet canal. Amongst the 3 of us, we ordered one pizza, squid ink pasta and the squid with polenta.... More

We walked past this restaurant and were hailed by a charming young man. Having looked at the menu, we decided to have a meal on their terrace, which is quite attractive. Unfortunately, our waiter was not charming - in fact, he had a most peculiar attitude. (One really wonders why, seeing that there was nothing special about him at all).... More

I must congratulate Vittorio, Paul, Ayhan & Alessio for the extremely professional way this restaurant is run. From the moment you walk in, you are instantly made welcome and can't help but notice the buzzing atmosphere. The restaurant is located overlooking the Grand canal and the excellent variety of top class traditional Italian dishes along with the nice selection of... More

This was recommended by hotel and was a very convenient choice. We were made very welcome and dined on the canal side terrace.

The food is great, we had the calzone and it is definitely something to share between two. Also if weather permits it eat out in the deck facing the grand canal for great views and photo opportunities. The wait staff was nice but they do seem a bit drained being the end of the season. Totally recommend the calzone!

While we were waiting for our room to be ready, we had lunch at Trattoria Povoledo. My Margherita pizza was delicious with a thin crust and lots of cheese. The view of the Grand Canal was great with not many people there for an early lunch (about noon).

Dropped in because we wanted to sit by the canal... good position to watch the waterway. We had caprese salad, prosciutto and melon followed by a pizza. All fresh and tasty... pizza was excellent.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
