It was recommended by a friend who used to live in Venice, spot on, we had dinner twice there. The place is simple and unpretentious. Service friendly, the owners are there, we got a table even without a reservation. And the food OMG , delicious, quality, quantity and flavour.

We have eaten here many times before, and three times on our latest visit to Venice. We love the friendly welcome, excellent food and good service. It's not pretentious, and you wouldn't call it "high-end" but it seems to be full every evening, and booking is essential.

Reading the other reviews, it seems we had an atypical experience. We saw this restaurant earlier in the day and were so intrigued we traveled back to it for dinner. The waitress was curt with us and not at all sympathetic to our very rudimentary Italian - it clearly annoyed her that our Italian was not better. The food was... More

Great for a lunch. We were walking in the area and came across this restaurant. It was packed with all Italian speakers. Two chefs in the kitchen and one woman running the dining room. The menu was simple and the people next to us had grilled scallops, and then gnocchi and were thrilled. We had grilled squid, perfectly cooked and... More

A lovely very busy fish restaurant off the tourist map & very popular with the locals. The menu wasn't in English but the waiter helped us to understand was very friendly and nice. Good was good, wine was nice- toilets the cleanest I've seen in Venice - worth a visit . The spaghetti dishes also looked good although not tried.

This Osteria was wonderful. Good fresh food. Dishes were catered to the fish lover and me the vegetarian. We had the fish antipasto and the squid, calamari as well as grilled vegetables.

We had 'salmone alla griglia' with polenta, very well presented to which I would give a score of 5 over 5, it was excellent, it could have not been better. 'Spaghetti alle vongole' instead I would give a score of 3 or even 2.5 over 5 : I understand restaurants need to half cook pasta to be quick when serving... More

Great fresh food Nothing fancy to look at but what an atmosphere! We managed to get a table for 2 as they opened and was soon packed. Wonderful fish and pasta dishes. House wine was also very reasonable Hic

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
