I last wrote about this place in July when eating outside was glorious. Now it's a bit too chilly (for my taste at least) but inside is decorated for the holiday season and is very inviting. What's special now is that Alessandro (who is multilingual) and Vincenzo are THE guys who will take good care of you. We ate there... More

We made a reservation for Friday night at 7.30pm and were the only people there when we arrived. Although more people turned up later, it was never close to full so if you're a walk in during the off season you might be in luck. The multilingual waiter was very attentive and friendly and was willing to provide guidance and... More

Oh how I wish we had read the reviews before we dined here. It was recommended by our hotel so we were keen to try it. The food was faultless. Yes - a bit pricey but we were happy to pay for what was really lovely food. At the start we noticed the maitre d behaving very oddly with the... More

There are plenty of tourist traps in he neighbourhood but A Beccasfico was a cut above. Good choice on the menu and well executed food. Prices a little high, but service was particularly friendly and attentive without being obtrusive.

The food was delicious - definitely have the mussel soup as a starter which is big enough for 2 and makes a dramatic entry! Also the linguine with clams was absolutely gorgeous and I would highly recommend also. The waiters were charming, professional and attentive, and the maitre d is fluent in many languages, chatting away to all the customers,... More

Everything was perfect, from the welcome, passing from the yummy appetizer (pesce crudo) to the mussel soup to the rombo (typical fish from the Veneto). Special mention to Alessandro. He is fantastic. Lovely!!!! Thanks for everything I will come back soon!!! Grazie mille!!!

Popped over for an impromptu lunch as ABC Quadri was temporarily shut from minor flooding after two days of rain. Despite being almost empty compared to the other two competing restaurants on Campo Stefano, we sat down at one of their white clothed tables on the square, met by well-dressed but nonchalant waiters who really couldn't be asked. It was... More

I like most restaurants I go to. I find something to like about it even if I'm not completely enjoying it. This restaurant was recommended in our guide book and I'm trying to think why... I wish someone would have told us not to go...it was that bad. Flavorless food. I've had better salad at my elementary school cafeteria. We... More

We had lunch here on a Friday afternoon, having been recommended to visit here on our stay in Venice. The service was very professional, and the menu had plenty of choice. For starters we ordered a raw sea bass dish, which was superbly prepared, and an aubergine parmigiana, which was the best parmigiana I think I've eaten. Mains were equally... More

Go for the pasta! Great attitude from the maitre'd and waiters. Lovely quiet and good dinner. We enjoyed it very much.

Description
Just accross the Ponte Ascedemia. Lovely and serean in a quiet pizza very near to Pizza San Marco. Wine not served by the glass - they open a bottle of wonderful house wine and only charge you for what you drink. Excellent friendly service and good food.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
