Excellent home-made gelato- some interesting flavours that we've not found elsewhere- not least the 'house' special crema del doge. The square and neighbourhood were also well-worth a visit.

During our 2 night stay in Venice, we managed going to Il Doge three times! Not only do they offer a wide, unique selection of gelato, but the quality is AMAZING despite the very cheap price (1.50 euros for one scoop, 2.50 euros for two). The staff are very friendly and the gelato is freshly made (we saw a new... More

Very creamy and smooth gelato with outstanding flavor. I had the Crema del Doge. Out-of-this world. This place is worth a detour but be careful with the hours which are a little erratic.

I visited Venice with my friends in February. It was my first time there, while they were in Venice many times before. Since it was my first trip when I came to Italy, till then I didn't try italian ''gelato''. My friends told me about Gelateria il Doge and took me there. We had a bit trouble to find it,... More

So far the best Gelateria in Venice. We found the by chance and had a cono as desert for our dinner nearby. It was delicious. Be sure, we will be back for more!

Like the title says, I always make it a point to come here every time I visit Venice, which has been 3 times so far. I've bought a couple family and friends here and they've all enjoyed this place as well. This place holds one of the top two best gelato spots for me (probably the best actually) worldwide and... Delicious, fresh, creamy, flavored. Hard to choose among all the amazing options they have. In the middle of all touristic and gastronomic traps the city offers, it is really a oasis. I highly recommend it, don't miss the pistachio!

As a ten year old with ice cream experience, I would say this ice cream was amazing as was the price of 1.50 which is really cheap for its taste. My sister had pistachio ice cream in a cone, which was the same price as in a paper cup. It also really tasted of pistachio. My other sister had Nutella... More

In the eastern corner of the Campo Santa Margherita square, it is run by two cousinswho make their own seasonal gelatos and ices, and it has to be one of the the very best gelaterias in Venice! Read your forum for more on this one.

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
