This cafe was so sub-standard. The coffees came way after our breakfast and were cold. The English breakfast was a laugh. Two cold and hard pieces of 'toast', greasy cold bacon and two eggs. Other members of our group ordered a 'panini' but it was a poor ham and cheese sandwich. I do NOT recommend this place to eat. Do... More

Awesome breakfast, owners are nice and prices are even better. Definitely suggested, been here for lunch as well and it won't disappoint.

The first meal my husband and I had in Italy and we were happy with it. The view is great, even from inside, and the food is good. Fairly priced too.

We arrived in Venice that evening and decided not to stray too far from our hotel that night. We called into Agli Amici (had done so also about 3 years ago) for pizza which was fine, but the place was virtually empty, i.e., more staff than patrons, but it was virtually impossible to motivate the staff to serve us. I... More

Was good enough to visit twice in a 4 day stay. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Food was good - especially the pizza - and there was no service charge !!

Visited whilst on holiday in Venice Service was friendly but efficient. Menu seemed to be typical Italian and we selected two pasta meals Both of which were excellent

This was a final meal before we departed venice - nice spot beside a canal and serves traditional Italian food - Good pizza and pasta dishes and wasn't overly expensive like other places - only downside was beggers allowed to approach your table which should be discouraged when eating.

A good location to make you feel you are in the depths of old Venice and yet only a short walk from the bus stops at Pizzalle Roma. Simple food at reasonable prices (might even be called inexpensive for Venice) and very friendly staff. We always go there for lunch when in Venice as it does everything you could want... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
