We turned up last minute on New Year's Eve looking for gluten free pizza for two, and were not disappointed. They were so accommodating and the pizza was great. Inside decor and atmosphere is trendy and fun. Great choice of music too.

My wife loves this Pizza, nice quiet place. And it was quick. Place looks clean. I was there twice and still it was quick and clean.

Ideal if you are staying locally but not worth detour, based on my two visits. GF pizza was fine, service friendly but erratic. Once served, you're on your own! But no problem going to the bar and asking, but 12% is added anyway. Maybe a bit over critical, it is a relaxed place.

I had a delicious pizza on a gluten free base and a cappuccino for €15. Lovely friendly staff, I was by myself and the staff asked me where I wanted to sit and told me I could sit near a power socket if I needed one. Very lovely place full of Italians not tourists as well!

It is a great place to hang out with friends. Food and service is excellent. The restaurant is large and can handle large groups, with a big fireplace. I am a fan!

Ae Oche is worth the walk, to escape the frantic tourist hotspots and crazy dining prices. Our pizzas were very fresh and reasonably priced as were the drinks. Staff spoke perfect English and were very helpful.

We ordered two dishes: sea food 12€ with paleta or poleta (?) and meat with paleta 14€....water 2,7€. Sea food was very good but the meat horrible: one very salty soussage, chicken breast very dry, beef grilled very hard, 2 ribs without meat....and two small pieces of poleta....poleta was good....the cover cost 2,5€ per person and they add to the... Ae Oche is a trendy, family friendly restaurant. There are several throughout Venice. We ate at the one in Santa Croce on a recommendation from the tourist information office for a good gluten free restaurant. The food was very tasty, nice thin crust pizzas and inexpensive too.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
