Had excellent couscous with vegetables for lunch: wonderful middle eastern spices, and an ample serving. Warmed me up and filled me up on a rainy day. Tables close together, but it felt cozy, not crowded.

Loved the varied dishes-- spicy fish, moussaka, appetizer plate. house wine was very good, an unexpected delight since most house wines tend to be unremarkable. efficient and friendly service. We'd definitely go back to this ristorante.

We were 6 and we had the same opinion : a bad meal with an undrinkable house wine (the white wine as well the red one), served by an unfriendly staff, in a miserable decoration and sitting on unconfortable chairs, ...

Usually Kosher restaurants cater to Kosher customers (like me). The first thing I noticed was that at least half the restaurant patrons were not necessarily Kosher observant (it's not like we wear signs but there are clues :-). Here's why: The food is good and the prices are reasonable to say the least. You can choose between Israeli/Jewish dishes as... More

For kosher eaters, you have to try this restaurant. First of all, the atmosphere (it's Venice...). The food was very tasty and Italian style, with a very large variety of meals (with meat or vegetarian)

Have been to Gam Gam on separate occasions (once for Christmas lunch) and always have a good time. Food is good, varied, exotic and well done. Prices are reasonable and the wines are worth trying. Staff is always friendly and accommodating

In this crowded restaurant (book in advance) in the Venice Ghetto you'll find a lor of young and kind people serving you decent food. Good falafel entrees, good mussaka and latkes, really good traditional biscuits. Message for the housekeeper: FIX THE DOOR!

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
