My lasagna was a slop of bechamel when it didnt even state on the menu that it was white. Spagetthi bolognase had no taste, and no sauce, it looked like canned spaghetti. The prosciutto e formaggi (as an antipasto) had three small wedges of the same cheese to share between four of us, and the prosciutto was tastless. Cover charge... More

We stopped in here on our way to Saint Marks and we were glad we did. We shared the mixed seafood spaghetti and a carafe of the house red. Both were delicious and the server was very friendly and casual. The atmosphere is very relaxed. There was a mix of tourists and locals here. We would recommend this location for... More

Delightful, local restaurant with excellent food. I ordered the grilled fish of the day and it was simply beautiful. Perfectly cooked and delicious. The atmosphere was energetic and casual and reminiscent of a local diner spot you'd find in any city in the U.S., except with an Italian twist. The emphasis is on the quality of the food, so dont... We stopped here for lunch and were delighted by the authentic Italian menu and the quaint little seating area. Our cozy table for two afforded a close-up view of the seafood counter/case on one side and a window on the other for people watching along the narrow street. My husband easily found good gluten free options on the menu and... More

Was brought here by Rick Steve's guide book recommendation. Ordered the antipasto misto as recommended but it wasn't very good. The staff wasn't very nice either. We also got the seafood pasta. The sauce was too salty but the seafood was decent and fresh. Overall, quite expensive for a meal that wasn't very good.

Small, cute, friendly and fresh! There were 8 of us (had a reservation) and we each claimed ours was the best dish! If you want to feel in midst of a fun Italian neighborhood restaurant with excellent food (especially the fresh seafood) this ones for you!

We had the seafood platter and spaghetti with cuttlefish ink. It was our first time of having this typical Venetian dish and it didn't disappoint.

Tourist scam. They charge you double the price for pasta on the menu because they charge per person, but don't explain that, so get ready to pay 40 euros for basic noodles. The presentation is terrible and lazy. Most all the dishes have bones or shells to pick through, and very little meat. Horribly overrated

Sauntered into this friendly local wine bar/restaurant for lunch today. Was planning on only having a carafe of wine, but couldn't resist an antipasto platter to share as the food looked brilliant. It was amazing .. Local fresh produce including seafood and vegetables created and displayed perfectly. A gourmet delight. Free wifi .. Reasonable price .. Frequented by locals

This osteria was busy when we left after an early dinner and the food must be the reason. The waiter did not appear to handle stress well and was brusque when busy but friendly when things calm down. It is the only restaurant I have been to the forces you to order the same pasta sauce. Only served for two... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
