It was a nice place - the waiter was hard to understand since he as very soft spoken. The food was average - I had the special and it was lacking enough seasoning but it was good. I was part of a larger group and everyone seemed to like their food but wasn't anything that would suggest a return visit.

We were looking for a restaurant that wasn't too much on the tourist trail and wasn't therefore "mass catering". Stumbled upon this while lost and it was absolutely perfect! I recommend the orecchiette with Gorgonzola and pistachio - gorgeous! Perfect-sized portions, authentic Italian food, lovely waiting staff, not too expensive and on a nice, quiet street. Thank you for giving... More

Although the prices of dishes listed outside the restaurant seem good value, we found this restaurant is very commercial and it doesn’t serve the best food in terms price-quality. The wine was too expensive, and be careful as they seem to have two bottle sizes and you can be misled and only realise too late; when you see in your... More

We rented a nice little place in Arsanale just down from San Marco. While waiting for the contact to meet us we had a late lunch at Bacaradino. Very nice little cafe off the main streets of Venice. Great service.

Nice atmosphere and food. Friendly staff. A little tight between tables (inside). Note, LARGE beer is VERY large!

The food here was excellent and very good value for money. Quite refreshing to find in Venice, because most establishments are very mediocre. There was a new and inexperienced staff member but she was very pleasant. The maitre D' and other staff were very professional.

Popped in here for lunch, having spotted the set menu lunch offer - a pasta and then a main for €15. The pasta dishes were okay, minimal topping, mains were better. Definitely good value though in Venice. We did have to ask for the set menu, as we were only handed the full menu, but otherwise a good lunch.

You can eat with confidence here. Food and service was good. We happened to stay at an airbnb at the Campo della Bragora, where I found out by chance (and very pleased to learnt that) Antonio Vivaldi was born in one of the buildings at the square and he was baptised at the church with documentation to prove it!!!

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
