Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Returning to Local time and time again is always a treat! We discovered the restaurant in 2015, when it first opened. Immediately, we were taken by its sophistication and quiet elegance. Since then, it has fine-tuned its menu, received a Michelin star, and become a..."special occasion" destination for many. Owners Benedetta and Manuel welcome you with a deep knowledge of Venetian culinary history and an in-depth appreciation for international wines. Chef Salvatore takes you on a gastro journey through the region, inspiring and surprising along the way. Stand out dishes are the risotto, dry-aged fish, Eliche (pasta) "in Nero," and even the piping-hot sourdough, rye and spelt bread. Service is warm and attentive and the wine pairing options are outstanding and interesting.More

Restaurant trying too hard. A plethora of odd and unappealing dishes arranged in a compulsory tasting menu. Flavours predominantly bitter and burnt. Service friendly, but hit and miss. Fussy little business cards presented to explain each course. Very good wine list, and we had a...top-class bottle, but the food is so strange you’re better having the pairings; maybe even the distillate offerings, to better kill the tastes. It may be your thing, but it was not ours. Go to Wisteria instead.More

Everything about Local is amazing. The food is excellent and well thought though to take you on a journey of modern Venetian food. Everyone who works here are the very best. So pleased we were able to have such a great night dining and meeting...everyone working at Local. The restaurant is gorgeous in a lovely street in the side of a canal. Stunningly designed and intimate.More

Situated on a really top picturesque location, super cozy interior, floors and glasses match! Super tasty and diverse food! Great wine list and a knowledgeable sommelier. Staff are friendly and hospitable, food is top notch! A six course meal takes about an hour and a...half - two hours. Make sure to get a reservation, in order for you to be able to indulge in this culinary adventure!More

This was our fifth dinner at Local but first since 2021. Once again we had an over 3 hour extravaganza with 7 courses plus cheese and wine paring with each course. The menu at Local is unique to Venice, and possibly to anywhere else. For...example, this was our first experience with Musso (donkey) served with mushroom and murex, and with dry aged grouper. Each course comes with an explanation card giving a little history around the dish. The bottle of wine served with cheese had to be the largest we had ever encountered in a restaurant. There are many excellent traditional Italian restaurants in Venice, but Local stands out for its originality. Service as always was friendly and professional. Not inexpensive but in our opinion worth the price.More

Really interesting and unusual Venoto-region dishes, beautifully presented. Some may find dishes like Musso, Mushroom and Murex (donkey and sea snails) or a Grappa, Hazelnut and Curry dessert challenging but that's part of the charm here. The wine pairings were passable but not memorable according...to my wine-loving partner but Local got full marks from me (as a non-drinker) for the non-alcoholic pairings - carefully selected teas for each course that ranged from full-bodied fruit infusions to subtle blends such as Oolong and Samphire. Too many top restaurants ignore non-drinkers who, after all, are still willing to pay for first class food and happy to reward a little creativity in drinks that complement it.More

The ambience is pleasant, but far too loud. The food is good, but the price-performance ratio is not right. Service should definitely be improved - was quite unfriendly and paid far too little attention to the guests.

One of the most disappointing dining experiences ever. Several of the degustation dishes were inedible due to excessive salt. The desert was just weird. Staff were rude and ridiculed us for complaining. There are lots of fabulous restaurants in Venice, do your self a favour...and go elsewhere.More

We visited this nice restaurant for my husbands 60th birthday and was an extremely memorable meal. We were treated with kindness by the entire team and watching the team was like watching a well oiled machine work in harmony. Every dish was incredible and inventive...and thought provoking. By far our favorite dish was the risone! It is magic in a dish! We do wish that we had not done the wine pairing simply because of the cost and the Amount of wine was really too much for us. But the pairings were all perfection with each course.More

I don’t often write reviews no matter how fantastic or terrible my experience is so I am not sure why I feel compelled to write a review of the solidly mediocre meal I just had at Local. I had high hopes – I love a...good multi-course meal and we had just eaten at Quadri the night before which was fantastic. The food itself was fine. Not the best food I have ever had but things were well-balanced and interesting. My biggest complaint was the service, timing, performance, and overall experience. It shouldn’t have been overly fussy, but it kinda felt fussy, and yet, on the other hand, the staff seemed to forget about us at several points during the meal. I know a multi-course dinner takes a long time and I don’t want to feel rushed, but there was a 40-minute gap between our third and fourth courses (and I am not exaggerating). They said they were going to take us on a culinary journey but always bring us back to Venice, but they didn’t actually tell that story very well during the dinner. They started by bringing us these little cards (like the size of business cards) that told a little something about the next course. It was a nice touch, but then halfway through no cards – we asked and they said “we just changed things and don’t have a card for that course”. Um, ok. I mean either do the cards or don’t do the cards, but don’t just stop mid-meal and then resume for the dessert courses. It felt very odd. Also, we had two vegetarians in our group (of 7 total) who have eaten at Michelin-starred restaurants around the world (and we called ahead to make sure they were ok with accommodating vegetarians) and they served them half of an onion for their main course. It was the most bizarre thing – that is not a main course any more than slapping half a portabella mushroom down on a plate and calling it a vegetarian main is. The absolute worst part was that after the “main course,” they brought an amuse-bouche before the two dessert courses….what happened you ask? After feeling ignored for half the night a team of 7 staff (and the chef) abruptly walked up to the table with spoons in their hands and they stepped right behind you and wanted to feed you. Like you were supposed to eat off their spoon – it was the most forced and performative thing that was so jarring I refused to do it. I like a little drama or flair when I go out for a 7-course dinner, but again this just felt ridiculous. I know that kitchens, chefs, waiters, and people all have “off-nights” but this felt really off. I can’t imagine that they would have kept their star had the Michelin reviewer been dining tonight. Needless to say, our group was disappointed.More

Taste was not really to our liking, but athmosphere and service was really great. Quality of food and wine was fine and the staff made it a very nice experience, but the taste was too much fermented fish and lack of any meat dishes.
