We came here by chance. The first time we have been eating fried seafood and pasta. The taste and quality were just perfect. Why we decided to come day after. And again: seafood was fresh, the selection incredible. The hosts were friendly, the prices low.

First of all, there are no prices on the menu! After asking the prices to the waiter (which I find pretty unusal in Italy at the restaurant) we ordered 2 appetizers from the buffet, one main dish (pasta con le sarde), a very small second course (fritto di mare), 1/4 liter wine + water. Paying 40 euros for that in... More

Very basic interiors and service, which we therefore thought would result in a reasonably priced meal. Very expensive for what we had. 2 small plates of cold antipasti followed by a plate each of large prawns (4 each). Basket of bread, 1 beer and a bottle of fizzy water total €40. We had expected better due to this being recommended... More

Visited Zia Pina on recommendation from Lonely Planet (note that the reference to this restaurant has been deleted from their site)... All started well enough until a 'customer' 'dropped' a bundle of cash which we now know is the latest scam... When we didn't react to the scam, we were presented with a bill that was DOUBLE what we ate... More

The Zia Pina is a small family run restaurant that is only open on a lunch time. There is limited seating and it can get crowded with mainly locals (always a good sign). You can help yourself to a large plate of anti pasti to start from an extensive selection of fresh produce. There is a choice of fresh fish... More

The 2 pastas we had (Nero di seppie and frutti di mare), were tasting as cooked with supermarket frozen sauces, even if it was crowded (we were queueing a lot before having a table outside). Waiters are nice and characteristic, but you have to guess the price until the end of the meal .. and the overall price is not... More

We ordered a spaghetti frutti di mare spaghetti, and it was awful. All sea food (mussels, vongole, shrimps) tasted like rubber. I suppose the sea food was not fresh (sitting 500 meters from the sea). The spaghetti and sauce was good though. The other plate was fried fish, most of it was good, except the calamari that also tasted like... More

We have been here twice for lunch fall of 2012 and 2014- both on a Sunday. Both times were amazing. The freshest of seafood! The prices so reasonable. It is a proverbial hole in the wall but well worth it. So if you are into great food and a simple setting it is a must go if you are anywhere... More

Authentic street seating, great antipastos, etc. Real old Palermo street scene as well. Food was very satisfying.

Zia Pina is a tiny place near the Vucciria market. A decent map will help you find it. If you're seeking fancy, this is not it. If you want wonderful food, then go inside and try the antipasti. You can pick what you want. We also ordered a main course of fish for lunch. We ate outside. The wine is... More
