Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After a long walk in the city, the long-awaited dinner deserved a big compliment. We had a Florentine steak for two which was cooked a perfect medium rare. It was crispy on the outside but tender inside. The roasted potatoes served together was flavorful so...we finished it all. We couldn't remember the name of the soup we ordered but it was also nice. One thing need to be mentioned is the fried bread that they served as an appetizer, that was so good! We had tiramisu which was perfect for my taste, bittersweet and light. The ambience was great and the service was beyond expected . They treated their customers with nice attitude, especially the lady who I guessed might be the owner. Thank you for the great food and service-mind. This was the best food experience we had in Tuscany. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187895-d1077844-r940819320-L_Osteria_di_Giovanni-Florence_Tuscany.html#More

Best meal of our trip. Was a recommendation from our tour guide. We were here on Valentine’s Day. The Florentine steak was amazing, as was our gnocchi, and seafood pasta. Great wine, service and ambiance. We are from the Midwest where we raise excellent beef,...therefore we usually do not order it when we are overseas. We were not disappointed!More

We had a fantastic experience at this restaurant! Great service, food and wine. I highly recommend. It is a bit of a walk from “city center” but a nice walk through the neighborhoods. They were very nice to us - even gave us a bottle...of their wine as we walked out.More

We ordered biftek fiorentina for 3 persons. We asked for a medium steak, however the waiter told us that it will be a little red inside, because the meat is thick. Actually, we got a rare steak, which was warm outside and cold inside, most...likely they cooked it at a wrong temperature, aswell the steak was probably cold when they put it on the grill. After we sliced it, we kindly asked the waiter to take it back to the cook to make it medium. He was obviously deranged by this and brought us back the stake well done, almost burnt, hard to eat. The steak was served with some common, basic baked potatoes. Also, the first time when i took a beef steak at a restaurant and was served with some fast food salt nearby. So: 1. Rude waiter 2. First time i eat in a restaurant where they can't make a medium steak (they said is thick) 3. The plating was absolutely basic 4. Burnt stake afterwards Dont reccomend. I didn't give 1 just because the quality of the emat seemed OkMore

A friend in Florence recommended this restaurant, and it did not disappoint! Every course was delicious! We ordered the daily special antipasti- an octopus dish, which was excellent. We loved the ribollita! We ordered a variety of dishes: seafood linguine, veal involtini, rabbit, and squab....Every bite was fantastic. Dessert highlights were the warm lemon cake, brownie a la mode, and apple cake.More

My husband and I stumbled on to this wonderful Osteria while exploring one night, and had one of our best dinners while in Florence. The friendliest, most welcoming people you could possibly meet, they were so happy to have us there for a meal. We...each had a pasta dish (I had the pappardelle with wild boar) and then shared the filet mignon with roasted potatoes (SO DELICIOUS), with tiramisu for dessert. Also, ask about the homemade almond cookies, they were amazing. I can't say enough about how special everyone at the restaurant made us feel, it was a really joyful meal that I'll always remember.More

I did not have a dinner reservation for any place on this date of 9/6/2023. I remembered a place that had been highly recommended to us by some fellow guests at our hotel. We showed up at 7:30 pm without a reservation. Place was not...busy so we were able to be seated immediately at a lovely table. I really liked the ambiance of this place when we arrived and my feeling continued to when we left. The staff are extremely friendly and very willing to offer information about items on the menu and/or offer recommendations. Along with the usual bread basket we were presented with fried bread pasta bites? I know our server explained this to us but all I can remember is how delicious these bread bites were! We might not have finished all the bread in the basket but these bites were quickly consumed. For drinks we are a pretty boring couple. My husband got beer-Poretti and I got a glass of the house wine-red. We're happy with our choices but my husband says he really likes Peroni beer best. For appetizer I see fried zucchini flowers on the menu. We get that. They were so, so tasty. I ordered the filet mignon-done medium. It was perfectly cooked as I had requested. It came with roasted potatoes and swiss chard. My husband decided to order the fish of the day. Drat! I didn't make note of what kind of fish this was but he said it was very good and not overcooked. His dish came with roasted potatoes and vegetables. Dessert. I got the tiramisu which was yummy. Every bite was a joy. My husband decided to go with gelato. Out of the flavors on the menu he chose pistachio. He said it hit the spot. Perfect way to end our meal. All the food was terrific. Service was spot on. At the end of our meal we got complimentary almond biscotti and limoncello shots. We also got a small bag of the almond biscotti to take with us! So glad we came here. By the time we were leaving it was very busy which wasn't a surprise given the quality of food and the excellent service provided. Cost 108€/$116.68. Highly recommend this place.More

Highly recommended by locals, a great restaurant for Tuscan food. Be prepared to pay a bit more for the excellent service and food and drink all of which was outstanding. Each course was superb from the Osso Buco to the pasta and the beautiful semi...soft biscotti.More

Four of us followed another friend's recommendation and were texting our thank you's back even before our meal was finished. Great food, great service and terrific ambience. Our friends split a sirloin steak that they devoured, my wife had a cod dish and I had...a veal scallopini suggested by our waiter as the best of the 3 veal entrees on the menu. I had a pasta with meat sauce app, while the others had either an artichoke salad or a caprese... Between the apps and the entrees, they deliverd a small bowl of a heary vegetable soup for us all with their compliments!! everything was wonderful. We were too full to order deserts but they brought us over pre-packed biscottis to take home and it took us a while to convince them to not bring over a complimentary lemoncello!! centrally located... not overly expensive considering the quality and experience.More

So good was this meal that I'm writing the review at the table, sipping my last bit of grappa, compliments at the house. I don't think that the excellent service, superb meal, and overall great vibe has anything to do with the expectation of me...writing a great review! To be specific, we shared the smoked duck as an appetizer, the pasta with truffle sauce (killer!), and a pistachio encrusted tuna to die for. Still waiting for the bill as our server just brought a bit of sorbet and an almond biscotti. And some limoncello for my wife. Oh, and the guy we were chatting with just dropped to his knee and proposed. All this for $129 Euro?!?. This is why you come to Italy!More

I do not know when it is served. It has not always been on the menu when we have been there, mostly I recall in the spring. The last times in September and December it was on the menu.
