If I could give a zero star rating I would. My husband and I got married in 2014 and used Sugar and Spice for our wedding cake (pumpkin cake with vanilla buttercream). We came back to Florence to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and wanted...to reorder our wedding cake. I reached out to Sugar and Spice in September to order our cake for pickup on 27/11/2019 and paid for it via PayPal back in September. Fast forward to 27/11/2019 - my husband and I walked over a mile to reach the bakery from where we were staying in Florence. When we arrived at the bakery and said we had an order to pick up, the owner, Masha, said she completely forgot to write down the order when we placed it in September. She rattled something to the extent that she was “very busy” and that it slipped her mind - no apologies for any of this being their fault. She then offered to put together a new cake on the spot, but said she only had pumpkin cakes available with nuts (we had ordered it without). We agreed to this, because we did not want to leave and make the trek back over to the bakery (we have a small baby and didn’t want to waste anymore time). We ended up sitting in her bakery for a good 30-45 minutes before the cake we ordered back in September was ready. At no point did we receive any real genuine apology and she never even offered us a cup of coffee or a pastry while we waited on them to fix THEIR mistake. Fast forward to later that evening...We cut the cake and after taking a bite, we discovered it was carrot cake and not pumpkin cake after all! This was incredibly disappointing, not to mention, the cake made my mom incredibly ill that evening. I emailed Masha in the morning and explained that we got the wrong cake, and instead of apologizing, she insisted that she did not give us the wrong cake. I sent her a picture of the inside of the cake - pieces of carrot clearly visible - and asked for a refund. She asked to come by where we were staying on 29/11/2019 to give us the refund. When she arrived at our apartment, she came in with a foul attitude and flung an envelope with money on the table and began to fight with us insisting that our cake was still a pumpkin cake. Never once did she apologize or ever try to make things right. In fact, she brought cakes wrapped in foil to prove her point that she gave us the right cake. As an educated adult, I know the difference between the flavor of pumpkin cake and carrot cake, and we just told her that we will agree to disagree. Masha was incredibly rude and had the most worst attitude of any business owner I’ve ever dealt with. What happened with our cake was 100% their fault. I would NEVER recommend this bakery to anyone - no customer service and you might risk your order not being made.More

It was ordered for me for my birthday and great cake and will be visiting again as worth trying it again.

Sugar and Spice made the cake for my sons baptism over Easter this year. Not only were they easy to communicate with, the cake tasted and looked fantastic. I sent some photos of how I would like the cake to look, they exceeded my expectations....They also provided other desserts and they were also great! I can’t recommend this bakery enough! We will definitely return in the future.More

I wanted to make sure our son had a nice birthday celebration. He's studying in Florence, had only been there a week. I emailed Sugar & Spice. Masha and Saskia responded within 24 hours. A few emails, a (reasonable) PayPal payment, and all set. Not...enough time to choose particulars other than chocolate/fudge. Luckily a friend was able to pick it up for us. The cake was lovely and delicious (I've heard). Great communication from the proprietors and very reliable. What a service!More

Imagine not being able to celebrate your daughters 21st birthday in person as she is studying abroad! I reached out to Masha at Sugar and Spice and she made my daughter a beautiful delicious chocolate birthday cake. Everything was handled online and through PalPal. It...was seamless and as promised. Awesome! 5 stars! Marsha and Saskia are wonderful. I was looking for a way to wish my daughter a Happy Birthday. She is an American studying in Florence and I read about Sugar and Spice. The ladies returned my email promptly about a cake surprise....They are located at Via dei Servi 43. I ordered a chocolate fudge cake, paid thru PayPal (very easy) and paid for delivery. My daughter slept thru her alarm which was very unfortunate but was able to pick up the cake and the ladies were very nice despite having to wait at the door with no answer. I sent an email asking for a price to make a cake for my wife's birthday and provided a picture of the type of cake I would like, along with questions about the size and filling. I received an email from Masha with suggestions and...explaining everything so we ordered it from the UK via PayPal with a delivery date to our apartment in Florence. We told her what our address was and she gave us a time for delivery. I emailed Masha to confirm we had arrived and on the was pleased to see that Masha was delivering the cake herself. We took the cake which was well protected and saw that she had decorated it perfectly - just as we had asked for. My wife and family were completely blown away with the cake (my wife didn't believe I'd been able to order such a beautiful cake myself, online, and from another country!). The cake itself tasted wonderful and kept well for several days (in the fridge). I'd highly recommend Sugar & Spice as their cakes and service are second to none. My sister was vacationing in Florence, Italy during her Wedding Anniversary. We wanted to add some sweet memories and decided on having a cake delivered to her. Considering that I am based in India, executing this plan appeared a challenge with anticipated barriers like service...availability, reliability and most of all, language (i.e. English vs Italian). All this till I discovered Masha from Sugar & Spice. The team (Masha & Saskia) is very accessible and responsive through email and phone. I ordered a cheesecake for delivery. The entire experience from choice of item/recommendation to order placement, payment, order confirmation and on-time home delivery in Florence was a delight. The service was very professional considering I had no means of enforcing compliance to all my requirements from across international borders except trust. Thank you ladies-keep up the good work! I ordered chocolate chip cookies for my daughter for Valentine's Day. Masha & Saskia were very easy to communicate with by email and they were very accommodating. They ended up being ill on the day of pick up and made special arrangements for the order...to be picked up next door. My daughter said that they tasted delicious and that they reminded her of home. It was ironic that they are located on the same street that she lives on!More
