Food is fantastic. Service is great. Minestrone is the best. House wine is so good. Lovely atmosphere and really authentic decor. It's tucked away, so make the effort to find it.

We had lunch there one day and dinner the next day. The food was great. We sat outside the day we had lunch and started outside the next evening for dinner, but it started to rain and we went inside. Our waitress was the same each time and service was wonderful. Very good house wine.

I had spaghetti carbonara and spouse had white beans and sausage. Shared bottle of chianti and tiramisu for desert. Charge 2.50 Euro each for seating charge.

We only wanted to stop for a "snack" (which means either a starter/first course, or just a second course). As it was season for deer, boar, etc. we went for a cold platter with boar/deer dry meat & spread for all of us. Others then took spaghetti or a piece of meat. I was happy with my "Caprese" (tomato/mozzarella salad)... More

We were two groups (6 people and internationally mixed) that joined up for dinner. The food was ok although nothing better that any other Italian restaurant in any city around the world. The place itself is dark and uncomfortable. Prices though are cheap/fair. Biggest setback was the service. The waiter spilled loads of oil (from a salad caprese) on the... More

Don"t misunderstand this is a good place to eat but just not as good as some of the others. I had Pasta with rabbit sauce(red). It was very good but my wife pork dish was below average. My dish was recommended by our waiter. . Eat here if is convenient but don't go out of your way.

This is a place with cheap and great quality food, that also tastes like heaven. We ate here several times during our trip to Florence and always found the food superb and the bill small.

We asked our hotel front desk for a suggestion for an early dinner (6 PMis early in Florence). Right away this Osteria Trattoria was suggested and we were very impressed from the moment we walked in. We asked for a white wine suggestion and Antinori was excellent. Fruity and dry . . . We asked to share a salad and... More

In this "Osteria Il Mostrino" I eat the most delicious and yummy lamb! It is not a fancy place, very casual (and price for food was not too expensive! Even, like in most restaurants, tratorias, and osterias, you have to pay additional fee for service, which means that you do not require giving a tip.) We were trying a lot... More

This osteria was so close to where we were staying that we kept going back. We enjoyed our meals so much that out of six nights in Florence we ate there four times. The owner is not particularly friendly, but the waitress who served us each time was an absolute delight. We found the pasta dishes delicious and very inexpensive,... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
