Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Such a tourist trap and worst customer service! If you don’t speak Italian, the staff is very rude and gossips behind your back. And we were overcharged 10%. I cannot recommend this place!

Whilst staying in Lucca we tried a few gelato's but once we found this one there was no comparison anywhere in Lucca and possibly all of Italy, which really means the world as this is the home of the gelato. The staff are superb and...very helpful. The quality of the ice cream is phenomenal. And the cakes - well have a look at the photos. If in Lucca of an evening take a stroll through S. Elisa gate to this gelato you will not be dissappointed. Be prepared to queue with the locals for a few minutes as this is a popular shop!!More

Couldn't resist popping in to have all my senses pleasantly accosted by all theirs desserts and ice creams. Even better than last time, fabulous! So a repeat visit this evening and then back again tomorrow evening, then unfortunately back home!

Le Bonta was certainly a gelateria that made quite an impression on our first night outside the walls of Lucca. We had stopped nearby to have pizzas based on TA's review and coincidentally was near this ice cream parlour as well. I was shocked as...I sat in the car waiting for my family to purchase the gelato seeing the size of two scoops on a scone for only €2. We had two scones that day with a variety of flavours and we knew, we had to come back for it. Really worth trying out if you are ever around Lucca!More

We loved Le Bonta and have often talked of going back - one of the many reasons to return to Lucca! Be careful though - you will certainly order more than you can eat as it all looks so fantastic!

This is the best gelateria in Lucca and possibly all of Italy. It is worth the effort to find it just outside of the city wall.

I went to this place because of the reviews on Trip Advisor. Here's the bottom line: if you are a foodie and love authentic artisan gelato, skip this place. It is popular among locals, but its not the kind of subtle, high quality gelato that...focuses on developing really good clean flavor. It's more about throwing gobs of chocolate and chunks of things into creamy gelato and calling it good. This is the first time I actually threw away a cone because I couldn't eat it. I made the mistake of ordering the only chocolate thing that I saw in the case and it was called Bontinello (or something like that). I assumed it was the house version of chocolate. When I started eating it I could hardly get it down. It tasted like straight-up nutella in a cone. My husband noticed that it didn't even feel cold. After I ate about 1/4 of the serving I decided to throw it away. I just couldn't choke it down. Aside from the Bontinella I also had pistachio gelato which was really very run of the mill. Totally undistinguised. Foodies: if you want artisan gelato go to La Bodega del Gelato on S. Croce inside the walls.More

Best gelato we've had in many years/trips to Italy (and we go every year). Their crema as well as the original (in the back behind the counter) were equally fabulous. Visited twice in one week and would have gone again had we been in the...area longer. A real treat, inexpensive and well worth the stop when in Lucca (just outside the city). It was also nice to see lots of locals here as well and not just (us) tourists. Highly recommended.More

Just walked over to Le Bonta to buy ourselves a dessert. Not far outside the wall, took us just 13 minutes to walk there and easy to find with footpaths beside the road and zebra crossings to cross the roads. Wonderful choice of gelato, Chocolates,...cakes, desserts and tarts. We mistakenly chose a semi frozen one which we changed to a fresh one once this had been pointed out to us. So helpful! It was gorgeous - must keep our hands off the other half that we’ve saved for tomorrow!More

Just stopped for a gelato on our way back to our hotel. Every time we have passed by the place is full of locals stopping on their way by, so we thought it must be good and it was. The gelato was creamy and they...had lovely flavours. Reasonably price as well as we had two flavours in a cone for 2 Euros. Highly recommend. The cakes looked amazing too.More

This was a nice if not exception gelato place in Lucca, the problem is that due to the fact lots of the ice cream in Tuscany is exceptional when you just have some that is very good you can't give them the full 5 stars....This place does seem very popular with locals and the semifreddo that we had was also reasonably nice.More

I could not resist seeing people sitting on the benches outside ecstatically devouring their ices and not calling in. Inside is just heavenly and the two we sat in the sun and enjoyed were perfect.

La Bonta sells some of the best ice creams and pastries in the world. They also have frozen yoghurt with lots of amazing toppings. But if you have a real sweet tooth like me I would suggest you to skip that and ask for a...large cup (€3) and fill it up with 2 flavors: meringata and bontanella. What you get is fluffy mergingue cream and crema gianduja (the real Nutella). It has little to do with ice cream but it's sweet heaven in a bowl 🙌🏻. If you're not absolutely full and nauseous after this you can always go back for a second round of ice cream. That's what I did.More

One of my favourite gelaterias in Lucca! Delicious gelato, every flavour I've tried I've loved. Very good price for the quality too. Lovely cakes and cute little deserts and pastries as well all reasonably priced. Love everything about it!

We were staying at a property within a 5 minute walk of Le Bonta, so we had an ice cream here pretty much every day over two weeks. A great range of flavours and several new ones appeared over our stay. Staff were really friendly...and the prices reasonable. Didn't try any cakes but boy did they look good. A must visit if you are in Lucca.More
