Lovely food and atmosphere although we felt rushed, we had 3 courses and were in and out in 75 minutes vs 2-3 hours in other restaurants. We were encouraged to have the house starter crispy egg with pecorino cheese foam, cocoa, mushroom, and truffle, delicious....Had we not felt so rushed we might have gone back againMore
This restaurant might be our favorite restaurant in all of Italy. We loved it so much, we went twice during our stay in Siena. The food is outstanding, not only from the homemade bread and complimentary beef tartar, but to the must-have crispy egg with...pecorino cheese foam, cocoa, mushroom and truffle. Even our kids loved it. The restaurant is breathtaking - housed in a 1,000-year-old building - and the staff is friendly, welcoming and fun. We loved it so much, we ditched our kids one night and went back as a couple for a romantic date.More
Perfect for families looking for a memorable meal in a beautiful, authentic space with outstanding, kind service. We had a party of 11 (including 3 teenagers) two days before the Palio, and the staff and service could not have been more calm, knowledgeable, and accommodating....The foodies in the group can’t stop talking about how good it was—we took all of the server’s recommendations for local specialties, even the fried egg/chocolate/truffle thing, which was unexpectedly incredible. All of the courses came out perfectly timed. They were so nice and accommodated a young picky eater with a basic penne ragú that was not on the menu. During dessert, they took us down to the incredible wine cellar to explain how they pair regional wine recommendations for each dish. The bill was very reasonable—at least half of what it would have been in the states. Also, one of the teenagers dropped a small bill euro and the waiter chased him down the street to return it. Fantastic, magic experience all around.More
We had a party of 9 for dinner. 4 people got their meals in 15 minutes while the other 5 didn’t get their first course until after the other 4 were done eating. My ribs were dry and crunchy due to over cooking. Definitely not...worth the price and big disappointment. I told my wife we should have gone to a pizza place for a far better experience and 1/6 the price. Avoid.More
One of the best restaurants We had during the stay in Toscana. So cozy in a small street behind the big square. Perfect food and the staff was amasing! WE WILL BE BACK!
Superb food, service and in particular ambience. Having being in Italy for 12 days, this is the standout restaurant of the trip so far.
While on our honeymoon, we stopped for a fancy lunch in Siena. Matteo and the rest of the staff here were friendly, knowledgeable, and inviting. However, the true is the food and wine. The chef is masterful while at the same time playful with tradition...and taste.More
Excellent food with original presentation of the dishes. Homemade bread and service performed with smile and kindness
What a great find! We are both n Siena for the Palio and were wandering a bit before lunch time. We happened across Gallo Nero and we are so happy we did. The service was excellent, as the staff was attentive and not intrusive. Always...with a smile and answer to our questions. The food is remarkable. Very creative and fairly priced. The crusted egg appetizer is fabulous. No wonder the Michelin Guide mentions it. Highly recommend Gallo Nero. Ciao!!More
The best meal we had while in Siena, this place is run to a very high standard, with friendly and helpful staff. The food was absolutely sublime. This is a must if you are in Siena.
Fantastic and modern italian food with excellent service. We had one of our best dining experiences here and can only recommend this place! The „uovo croccante“ was extraordinary as well as the pigeon! Wine was excellent and our waiters were extremeley professionell, helpful ans friendly....We want to come again for sure and wish all the best to the team of il gallo nero! We passed this restaurant on the way to our hotel on our first night in Siena. It looked great and we decided to try it. We were not disappointed. Our meal was excellent. The menu is interesting and beautifully executed. The beef tartare starter was...the stand out for me. The venue is inviting - we sat outside but the inside looked great too. The team is friendly and know their stuff. Recommended.More
We were so excited to try this restaurant after the glowing reviews. But sadly this was the worst dining experience we’ve had while traveling through Italy. The staff was friendly and helpful when you got their attention. They didn’t anticipate you needing anything. We had...to keep asking for more water, another drink etc.. And sadly the food was just not that good. We had the pasta with arugula pesto which was so bitter you couldn’t eat it. The pici with duck had no flavor at all. Taglialoni with fish was okay. The only dish we loved was the pasta with wild boar ragu. There is no bar in this restaurant. They have a huge wine selection though. It’s pricier than most of the restaurants around as well. Maybe it was an off day but we were very disappointed. Our lunch took almost 2 hours for a starter and main course. Although the dessert menu looked good, we skipped dessert.More
We visited Gallo Nero on a very hot day. Inside there was a nice temperature and we also felt in love with the staging inside. The food is just amazing, everything looked great! And last but definitely not least: the staff is very polite and...has great recommandations (also on wines). We would highly recommend a visite! ENJOY!More
