We had a business group dinner upstairs. This is one of the kind historical building and I felt somewhat transformed into another time in history ( or maybe it's jetleg talking 😁) Food was good especially all the appetizers. We had scallops and octopus (pictures attached) For an entree we had Chateaubriand with all the trimmings served for 2. I... More

Wonderful meal - both food and service. Martin gladly helped w/ wine choices, understanding the menu and making guiding kitchen to prepare our dinner to special needs/perfection. Even helped us bring extra wine out to our hotel. Will return, highly recommend, excellent in all regard.

The great hall on the top floor proved an impressive backdrop for our 3 course gala dinner. Eventhough the ceiling is exclusively painted in green and brown, the chandeliers light up the room perfectely. The open windows helped to eliminate the heat from under the roof and also let in the early autumn atmosphere from outside. As a starter we... More

Local friends invited us to have dinner with them here. The ambience, the food, and the service were excellent. Wonderful evening and wonderful meal and we will be back next time we are in Basel.

We went to Safran based on a number of recommendations. Since it was the last day of the "mini Bies, Dini Bies" Chateaubriand special, we decided to check it out despite the hot weather. We thought it was very good, but not superb. The service was the same. We have had better here in Basel. Unfortunately, they did nothing to... More

We ended a Tauck River cruise in Basel and one of the friends we met on the cruise had lived in Basel and highly recommended this restaurant. It was a couple of blocks from our hotel, the Hotel Trois Rois, and the concierge made the reservation for our farewell dinner for 7. We arrived early and were given a beautiful... More

The “Safran-Zunft” is always a good address if you like fine dining in an elegant setting. The beautiful preserved guild house with a medieval interior hosts a very nice restaurant. This time we visited with another couple. After a very special cocktail we ordered asparagus salad on horse radish and smoked salmon, very nice. Then a Chateaubriand followed with sides... More

This is a classic Swiss experience in a gorgeous little restaurant - unless you get them to show you upstairs, the huge and historic guildhall above, which added greatly to our experience. Service was super, wines were good and reasonably priced and the classic Swiss meat and potatoes did not disappoint!

We took advantage of a "Deindeal" offer (it's like a Swiss Groupon) offering a four course dinner with table-carved Chateaubriand at a bargain-basement price which made us a bit wary of what we were in for. We booked for a Saturday evening and the place was full - word of the offer had clearly spread. More concerns about whether this... More

Christmas Dinner. food was ok, service and staff very friendly and filling glasses really regularly. Apart from the big room with the impressive old paintings - i wouldn't book a table for private reasons. the overall impression was ok, but the food was not special apart from the desert. White wine was not the best choice which was provided with... More
