Staff not friendly, rather snobby. Waited for ages to pay, then their machine was broken and they didn't know what to do. Food was average but pricey. Goulash soup had one piece of meat in it and was under-seasoned, tuna salad was tasty but small and mostly lettuce leaves. Maybe this place is better when eating all the sugary things.

Most of the products I tried are close to perfection, very tasty and it is also nice to sit down and have a coffee as it is a friendly atmosphere... but on a pretty expensive side, but that's everywhere in Switzerland.

Located at the start of Old Town, Bachmann's is a lovely Pastry Shop with some outdoor tables. They have a wonderful breakfast special at 13 CFP which includes a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice, a wonderful choice of 2 pastries from the basket( biggest , freshest croissants I've ever seen with jam and butter and a coffee or tea.... You find there the best coffee, hot chocolate and desserts but its quite expensive. The quality is excellent!

Confiserie Bachman has two locations in Basel the other in traffic-free Gerbergasse in the old town which is where we stopped for cafe-creme. I don't think bad coffee is made anywhere in Basel and this certainly was no exception and excellent. Sitting outside is a great spot for watching life go by and unlike the other location there are neither... More

6,10 CHF for a cappuccino sounds a bit too much, but the brioche was simply delicious! ...and opens on Sunday!

I had some savoury snacks which were pretty good if not a little small but my wife had a cream cake creation which she was very disappointed with as it was just whipped cream which lacked flavour. Hot chocolate was very good however.

My husband and I decided not to have breakfast in the hotel but to venture out in to the city. A trawl in the Internet flagged this little cafe as being worth a visit. The decor inside is classic but modern. The service is relaxed (as in quite slow - but hey it was the weekend). Breakfast was coffee, orange... More

We used to be regulars at Frey bakery by the main train station in Basel which used to have excellent sandwiches and croissants until one day they ran out and I popped in to Bachman next door and was amazed by their croissants. Outside of France arguably the best croissants I have ever tasted. I then went on to try... More

Outstanding confiserie and cafe as well. Excellent pastries, sandwiches, and coffees. Great indoor/outdoor seating on lively street corner near schifflande. Added bonus is they open early on weekdays so you can easily get great lunch items to go for later and they are also one of the few places in Basel open Sundays!
