The place is a rip-off. my BF treated me for mother's day. We ended up with a 700 CHF bill for a lunch for two because the waiter sold us wine by the glass for 90 CFH without mentioning the price. The appetisers were good,...but both main courses were cold (not not hot, but properly cold). When we flagged this to the waiter he told us there was nothing he could do for us but offered us a "free" limoncello (which everyone else also got).More

Not much to say. Very good, exceptional service and superb location, in one of the most upscale hotel of the world. The snobby atmosphere comes as a counterpart. Extremely expensive for what you get in my opinion; but you surely pay the name. Went to...many Michelin starred restaurants all over the world with more creativity and better technique and taste. Very good for sure, but not the best at this expectation level and price.More

We stumbled on this restaurant on a Saturday evening after our prior plans fell through. While it is at the Four Seasons, it looks on the outside like a charming street cafe. About half of the restaurant is outside, near Lake Leman and the start...of the Rhone River and a great place for people-watching on a fine evening. The restaurant is also a refined example of elegant dining and deserving of its Michelin star. The dishes we ordered were exquisite and the wine list was extensive. Service was also excellent. All of this comes at a price and Il Lago did not stint there either, charging, for example, CHF 80 for a bowl of bucatini. The wine list was also very expensive and represented vast multiples of the wines' retail prices - one wine we had just had during a tour of Burgundy days earlier was priced at six - yes six - times its retail price in France, an extraordinary markup (it is possible some of this was taxes, tariffs, etc.). So enjoy, but be prepared.More

Issy Sharp the Toronto based founder of Four Seasons built a great brand focused on service excellence, we booked Il Lago with it being a one star and within Four Seasons for a special dinner while in Geneva. We were really disappointed and didnt find...it met the expectation of a one star, nor a restaurant associated with the Four Seasons. We arrived for dinner, and from the start felt rushed being asked several times for our order while enjoying a glass of champagne, we ordered and within minutes our starter was delivered, we barely finished our starter when the main course was delivered. My wifes veal was tough, mine while ok was overcooked for veal, we have actually never sent back a meal, but my wifes was quite disappointing. The Manager willingly took both plates back, i mentioned we felt very rushed for a meal like this and that it felt as though the veal had been kept warm while waiting for us to finish our starter, both our main courses were on the cooler side. Our replacement order was delivered and was much better. While we finished dinner and ordered coffee, the waiter accidentally spilt my espresso all over the table, while unfortunate things happen and he apologized, the wine steward delivered two glasses of Sauterne (which was not inexpensive as an apology), it would have been nice though at the end of the meal if a Manager stopped by and offered an apology beyond the Sauterne and a desert for what really was a disappointing night for a one star and a Four Seasons Restaurant at a price of almost $600 CHF. I couldnt recommend this restaurant things happen but its all about the recovery which could have been more apologetic. While being one of the first to be seated we were placed in an outer dinning room that really didnt offer the ambience one would expect. The staff were pleasant and the offering of a Sauterne and dessert nice, but it felt as though the response was understated to what really was a disaster at $600 CHF.More

Currently on a tour for Michelin restaurants in Geneva, so managed to make a booking the first chance I got for Il Lago. Having received a Michelin star for each year since 2014, its undeniable that this Italian restaurant in Four Seasons has something special...to offer. Also, just as a side note, I did hear from some of my mother’s colleagues that Il Lago’s food was not up to their expectation. So maybe it is fair to say that there is, somehow, a rather mixed reputation among Geneva’s inhabitants. Made a phone call for reservation at 11am, managed to get a table within a minute’s call. Sat at the bar in the beginning, and decided to order a cocktail. I had a bit of an issue with what I received, but it was a very specific issue and I thought the best way to address it was to directly contact someone from the hotel privately. So I’ll leave the bar part out of this review. Restaurant is very elegant, in the old fashioned way. Pretty much in line with what the hotel itself looks like. Terrace seating is an option, but I chose to sit inside. A fully equipped guéridon (trust me, it was FULLY equipped) next to the table, the gentleman who waited my table spoke perfectly fluent English (as did most of the other people I talked to in the hotel) which is a huge relief for me. So far the experience has been very pleasant: considering that it is 1 star Michelin and considering that it is Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues, the hospitality is not only perfect but also above my expectation. After having a quick look at the menu I decided to go with a 4 course: 1 cold appetiser, 1 hot appetiser, 1 main and 1 dessert. With a bit of suggestion I settled with gambero rosso first. Two savoury bites and some crispy shrimps were offered, all were very tasty. Prawn tartare came with a very pleasant plating. Rich amount of prawn, cucumber ribbons, two pieces of surprisingly delicious jelly on top. That’s all I remember as far as the ingredients go. Seasoning is a little bit on the lighter side for my taste, but at the same time it fits perfectly as a seafood crudo. Refreshing, light and acidic, and not taxing on the stomach. The octopus starter was simply fantastic. Slow-cooked octopus tentacle, burrata and basil dressing, probably basil-flavoured savoury sponge, confit cherry tomatoes, grilled Savoy cabbage, microgreens and edible flower petals, and two black tuiles (probably coloured with squid ink or an alternative). A lot of action going on. In terms of flavour: impeccable. Each element individually seasoned to perfection and all of them worked in cohesion. Some chefs would make a common mistake: while pursuing a visually stunning dish, they forget to make sure all elements are equally delicious, and some elements will be either poorly cooked, under-seasoned, or just didn’t fit the flavour profile of the dish. The chef at Il Lago managed to present a perfect plate which is breathtakingly artistic, and at the same time so naturally balanced and delicious. Everything on the plate was also hot: admirable considering the time it takes to plate this dish. I used to work with a chef who hails a very similar style in his plating: focus on elevation and combination of colours, never afraid of using a hearty amount of sauce if the dish needs it, touches of sauces with contrasting colour here and there, each garnish needs to be in the perfect spot, if it’s not perfect then we plate it again. This octopus reminds me of his style, and I was just joking with him earlier today about this. Being a fan of aesthetics in food plating, this dish alone is the manifestation of what makes Il Lago a starred restaurant since 2014. Pursuit of culinary perfection shown in one plate. Followed with a veal ravioli with wild mushrooms and truffle, side of steamed vegetables on the side. Hard to compete with the octopus. Plating is a bit less sophisticated, and the ravioli was on the very borderline for al dente for me personally. As far as the flavour is concerned, perfectly seasoned veal and delicious sauce. The mushrooms were well cooked too. The only thing that was not satisfactory was the steamed veg: close to zero seasoning. A bit of a shame. Dessert was quite special. It was a strawberry baba in proper haute cuisine style, and honestly something that I didn’t expect at all. Goat cheese cream, baba drenched in strawberry sauce, limoncello granita on the side. Fairly creative way of presenting a classic dessert. I browsed through a handful of rather damning reviews about Il Lago and found a common consensus: that it is not “proper Italian cuisine”. Which I can partially understand: clearly the chef here adapts certain “modern” cooking techniques into the menu, and certain dishes might be served in a way best described as “reinvented”. But for people who are more open-minded, if not passionately in love with the culinary world, the efforts and dedication put into the food menu here is well received and appreciated.More

Il Lago has a varierty of amazing products and offerings: We often enjoy business lunch there with amazing home made pasta and a great price value offering. Also the aperetivos in the evenings are very comforting. Great drink menu, people are always very kind and...try to give you the best experience at their place. We always enjoy every second at Il Lago and are often coming back!More

I have eaten in Il Lago before COVID; I never thought it was great. However, I ate last week, and it was AWFUL. I had the menu of Vittelo Tonato, OK but infinitesimal size; normally in Italy, the main dish consists of meat and potato...or vegetables. At Il Lago, it was pasta (that was too raw to merit the definition Al Dente...) with a bit of tomato sauce. Basta. The desert was delicious, but NOT what it was sold as (Tiramisu). It had neither cream nor chocolate. It should have a different name. I surmise that the Geneva public knows that Il Lago is no longer its former self, as there were no Genevois customers. The menu was in Italian, no translation, and the waiter struggled to translate it. Lots of servers but bad service. Desert did not arrive at the same time for all guests, one arrived well after the first person's ice cream melted... The waiter said that service was not included, but in Geneva the law requires that prices always include the service. The waiter, an Italian who neither knew nor cared about the law, had no shame to beg for a tip. Unfortunately, this is no longer what Il Lago used to be. Neither great food, nor decent service. Only the prices are very high. From other reviews it seems I am not the only disappointed customer.More

My previous review of Il Lago was made in 2014 thus time for an update. As mentioned then, still is one of my favorite dinning spots in the region, where there are plenty of good offerings. We always feel good and are personally welcomed. It...almost feels like we are part of their family. No effort being spared. An establishment which has the main key 'ingredients' of a Michelin restaurant, setting, staff and good cooking! As for the cooking, true to its Italian roots, superb dishes which are totally up our street. The only thing I wonder is why it does not have a second Michelin star? We for sure will be returning!More

My wife and I were in Geneva for business. We had made reservations and were promptly seated. IT just went downhill from there. They just wanted to get us out from there. We had ordered the tasting menu. Just as one course was finished, they...would not even wait and bring the next course. We were totally ignored by the staff, to the extent, I had to pour our own wine on 2 occasions. The food was mediocre at best, but the way they treated us, NO ONE should ever go there for dinner.More

I went there for dinner and was blown away with their outstanding service. I didn’t order the tasting menu & decided to try their lobster risotto and truffle pasta instead. Their risotto was great but if I were to go back, I would stick with...the truffle pasta. The truffle pasta was oh-so-delicious and melt in your mouth! The flavor was complex and the truffle did not overpower the dish, just perfect. I didn’t have any room for dessert but my wonderful waiter still served me complimentary fruit platter that was stunningly displayed. The perfect dinner to celebrate my big 40.More
