Good choice for seafood near Bahnof

Although not affiliated with the original Brasserie Lipp in St Germain, the Zurich brasserie is a good choice for french cuisine - specially seafood. I had a soup and pot if mussels - both excellent. Friendly and attentive service - Lipp Zurich will not disappoint.

Good Food / Terrible service

Didn't go there for seafood, but if you want a steak tartare, choucroute, bone marrow, snails, or crème brulee, then this is the place. Typical Parisian Brasserie atmosphere. Quite pricey, especially wines, but nothing surprising in Zurich Service was terrible. Waiters not really friendly and slightly cocky. And we waited for our mains (nothing exceptional: choucroute and fish) for hours ! Not even apologizing when serving...

Expensive, expensive diet portion and expensive

Expensive and Zurich portion Sauerkraut composed of 120 gr of cabbage, 2 pieces of bacon and 2 small pieces of sausage with, the height of luxury, 1 potato cut in 2….for 37CHF!!!!! It has the smallest, tasteless and expensive sauerkraut of my life… I think it's a tourist scam. Plus 25 minutes of waiting for the sauerkraut. 1 plate of mussels without fries.. fries are extra (frozen of course)… You pay for the very nice setting, the name, and the fact that you are tourists…

Catastrophic / Horrendous service

Catastrophic service and extremely badly organized waiters. Came here 2-3 times and it is always the same story. Waiters completely ignore you (unless you have grey hair and a big gold watch) and are rude and unfriendly. Mr Haas (or Mr Haasi) is probably one of the unfriendliest waiters I came across. Rude, impolite and belittling. Ordered oysters, after 45 mins without anything and tables next to us being served their main course even though they came after us, I complained and the waiter said grinning "oysters take time". They simply don't care at all. The cold kitchen organization is a complete mess, way slower than the warm kitchen. The waiters run around the place but always empty-handed. I went to Lipp Paris, Lipp Geneva and they are better than the Zurich branch by a landslide. Do not go there under no circumstances.. so many great restaurants in Zurich, don't waste your money there.

Horrible dish even worse service recovery

I had an Italian specialty that was substandard to anything I ever had, and I had that dish >500 times. Never as bad as at Lipp Zürich. When approaching the waitress showing her pictures how the meal normally looks like in other branches, and telling her the sauce was tasteless and flakey, she barked back telling me I am the first to ever say that. Great service recovery. The universal rock bottom answer of incompetent and poorly trained staff. The manager listed stoically, and took off without a word to reconcile. I like the brand, but the Zürich location is a waste, I ate there a few times with my wife before after moving to Zürich, different things, and they were ok. After this, it’s a NoGo, for me, friends and visitors. Of course they don’t care, there is just too much traffic and the ratings are too good. With me they will lose 2000$ per year and if my friends consider their options we can take a 15k$ out of their revenue. I am doing my part! Do your part!!

worst dinner of the year

have been over the years several times in this restaurant. mostly satisfying but not great. came now for new years eve dinner and had my worst experience of the year. we ordered oyster with more than 1 hour waiting time. the second plate ( chocroute) came with hard poatoes and cold meat. i mentioned the order to be cancelled as we had another apointment in town. as we were ready to go he brought the plate back mentioning that i have to pay the order anyway. i did not consumed the plate and left paying under protest. my wifes fishsoup was also a disappointment and barely eatable. will certainly never come back. the prices are at the level of the "kronenhalle" and i have called me an idiot not choosing it.

We booked a table for 4. We were looking forward to come to Lipp as we loved this place before corona crisis. But this experience was absolutely awful. Lady who served us was careless and rude and aggressive. She should work in some beergarden but not in restaurant. We had to move plates and glasses and clean ourselves as she was not able to do it. She forgot some orders so each of us had to eat different time to another. Such service made us very upset as we have invited our beloved friends for lunch and we wanted to make it a good experience and it turned into disaster. Quality on some food has dropped down: mussels were not like before.

Our experience was very much on par with others - food was mediocre and service was poor. Despite making a reservation and walking into a nearly empty restaurant, we were sat in the back corner, and basically forgotten about. There were numerous times our waiter strolled right by us without even glancing in our direction to see if we needed anything. We had to flag him down just to order! He seemed highly annoyed with us despite being two smartly dressed and quiet ladies. Food was lackluster- I've had much better at other French restaurants. Service really ruined it for us. Didn't bother with dessert or drinks afterwards - chose to do that at a different restaurant where we would receive more than just mediocre service. I suggest to management to please train your bored wait staff in being a bit more alive, and hire more staff if patrons are complaining about slow service (hint: they are!) Won't recommend this place to anyone I know.

Boring, tasteless and overpriced.

Firstly, I never write negative reviews. In other words, I usually prefer not to share that opinion. In the case of Brasserie Lipp I feel compelled to share our experience. Unlike other reviewers who complained about poor service, the one thing I believe my husband and I would say was that the service was good. The food was far below par. My schnitzel was dry and flavourless, the accompanying vegetables were overcooked and limp and the broccoli was verging on grey rather than green. My husband's steak was also flavourless. The only thing remotely edible were the fries and seriously if you can't cook fries then things are pretty tragic. We had been recommended by a local to the Lipp and we also read the reviews but, the experience was entirely unsatisfactory only to be topped off by the appallingly high prices. Enough said.

Good food terrible service

This is the second time I’m here with a friend, service was extremely slow, took 1 hour 30 minute for our main course (vegetarian main dish and entrecôte A point) 20 mins for ketchup request delivered to us. The wine was good the food was good. Never coming back here. The wine was served before our water, he brought the bottle and left it, didn’t open it for 20 minutes! We were joking about opening it ourselves! Ridiculous. Joke of a brasserie apart from the food it was good. Had three cut pieces of bread not even full pieces. Fries were cold. Plates hot, meaning it was under the pass for a long time. We were taken as a joke, he never checked on us neither did the other waiters and I had to steal a candle from an unoccupied table to bring to mine. Never coming back. Disappointing but thanks for good food.

what's going on in lipp?

We have known Lipp for years and have often been there for dinner as a couple or with friends. Unfortunately Saturday was fully booked, so we chose Sunday evening - that was possibly a mistake. When we asked why the artichokes had not had their stems removed properly, the very friendly waiter informed us that the head chef was not there and unfortunately his deputy was not there either, hmmm. Le pot de moules, which we know from the start as the main course, had been on the stove for far too long, so the poor creatures were very dry. And the oil in the deep fryer could be changed again, then the fries would be less swollen - all in all a bitter disappointment. Is it really because there was no management of the kitchen on Sunday evenings or is there something fundamentally wrong (anymore)? It's a shame, we won't be visiting Lipp again for a while.

Wonderful service and food!

The manager Luigi and Joe took wonderful care of my mother and I. The service could not have been more attentive and this is especially impressive since we went to dinner on Valentine’s Day. The food was also exceptional (I had the petit pot of mussels and my mother had the steak in Cafe Paris style). Their French onion soup is also delicious. Make reservations in advance in order to have a most desirable table.

Small portions, patchy service .. don’t expect to have a full belly after the meal

A busy and popular Zurich establishment. After an earlier positive experience the last one was really disappointing. Patchy service insisting that we will be full and hence should not order additional sides. Unwilling to swap French fries for roast potatoes and veggies despite the fish costing approx 80 bucks. Very small portions even by Zurich standards. All in all after spending 175+ per head you leave dissatisfied and hungry. My partner had to buy a sausage on the way home 😅

Lipp without the lip

This is not the sometimes overbearing Lipp of Paris fame, but a sturdy classical brasserie experience with many of the same great menu items. Located in the busy downtown commercial area of southwest Zurich, Lipp is a bustling and well serviced restaurant. The sole meuniere was superior, as usual for Lipp, and I was surprised at a terrific whole steamed artichoke appetizer. My waiter was knowledgeable and attentive, even though the restaurant was near full. And don't hesitate to ask them to recommend a local wine. Altogether worth the stop.

Very unusual and rude reception.

We normally really like to go to Lipp, as the menu and wine list are great, but this time we were treated really poorly by Maître D. We arrived early and despite many tables being available we were sent to the bar upstairs (Jules Verne) and told someone would call for us. After 30 min and two gin tonics and CHF56 poorer we went back down. There were still plenty of free tables and despite that we were shown to a corner table far back in the rear of the restaurant. We asked why we could not get a table in the main restaurant and we were told that they were all reserved. We complained because we know most reservations do not specify what table they want, and we were told off, that we were at fault for coming early. Normally coming early is appreciated - but obviously not at Lipp - even if there are plenty of free tables. After this rather rude reception we decided to go somewhere else where our business would be more appreciated.
