We booked a table at The Anchor to have lunch with an Australian relative who was over on holiday. It was only after we had sat down and our drinks order was taken that it became apparent that the restaurant was unable to cope with the number of guests. Both tables next to us were complaining that they had waited... More

Went here to meet friends one sunny evening. Sat outside initially and then went in to eat. Had a great menu and I chose to have pies. Was feeling indecisive so got the chicken and ham and the beef and ale ones, served with mash and vegatables. Then again could not decide about the puddings beacuse I wanted all of... More

Sadly the management have no need to learn the lessons about the relationship between sufficient serving staff and good service, because the location means the Anchor will always have patrons. The patrons queue to buy food and drink, self serve their napkins and cutlery, and their drinks. There were 2 staff behind the bar taking orders and serving drinks, and... More

I visited today with my aunt, our food came very quickly and staff were ensuring we had all we need. We were lucky enough to have finished our food by the time a fire started outside the pub on a boat. Very quickly the staff identified this and as it was clear it was growing and began to evacuate the... More

Frankly disappointed on this visit. Tried to call six times to book a table; no response at all during the morning. Arrived to a long queue of people, all in line, trying to buy a drink ! Soon realised the only way to get a drink and a meal, was to ask for a table inside, where they would provide... More

Really good little pub - really busy and loads of people looking to eat and drink but no one was waiting or complaining - friendly and helpful staff and a real quiet little gem

We have been to The Anchor before, the food was nice then but this time it was not. My husband had braised should of lamb, it was dry, over cooked vegetables and a small piece of lamb. I had the steak and tanglefoot pie, the pastry was burnt, dry and overlooked veggies. My granddaughter had the chicken burger (kids menu),... More

Arrived at the Anchor at 14:15 today, found a table (it was busy), although covered in used classes and plates at least we had a table. Went into Pub to get drinks to be told "get in the queue, there is only one queue. Joined food queue for 20 minutes and ordered food and drinks (2 x Ploughmans and a... More
