I stumbled onto this place still freezing from waiting outside for so long to visit the Anne Frank House. I ordered the hutspot and can't rave enough about it. Service was friendly and attentive.

My wife and I stopped in to warm up with some hot chocolate and chicken soup. Both were great. The place decorated for Christmas

We ate there in the beginning of dec and it was a very nice experience! We tried the traditional dutch meal 'hutspot' and we loved it. The restaurant was decorated warmly for Christmas! We would definitely recommend this place!

Beer good staff friendly but food poor. There are so many places to eat in Amsterdam there is no need to risk a bad experience here. Ordered stroganoff, no flavour and ribs, tough and chewy. Shame because location is great.

We were cold, soggy and hungry so we stepped in to deal with all three. This is a quirky restaurant, very popular and crowded. Service was a little slow, but we didn't mind as we were warming up and drying out. Having been on a spree of trying different foods, we opted for some familiar ones to compare: Ribs and... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at De Oude Wester. It is close to the Ann Frank Museum. We had pancakes, apple and the Hawaii. Both were excellent. The Hawaii with cheese, ham, and pineapples was outstanding; best pancake we had in the Netherlands. The service was friendly, efficient, and accommodating. We highly recommend the restaurant and would definitely return on... More

We came upon this restaurant and decided to try it out. The food was OK and the waitress very pleasant. We had sandwiches, 3 fried eggs on toast, and a Dutch lunch which consisted of a sliced meatball served atop mashed potatoes with shredded carrots. Not our best meal but nice location and fun to try something different.

After visiting Anne-Frank House we had a great lunch in this interesting restaurant. We sampled the local 'Snert' (Dutch Green Pea soup) which was an excellent starter, just right when coming in out of the cold November weather. We then had the home made dishes of Strogonof and Goulash - plentiful, hot and tasty - all washed down with some... More

Fancied trying Dutch food and came upon this cafe. The menu was good and varied with pizzas, pasta, steaks etc on offer too. I had the Hachee (beef stew, diced potatoes, red cabbage) which was pleasant and a friend had something comprising of meatballs and mash which was very nice also. If you're lucky you'll be visited at your table... More

Been here for lunch after a morning if touring Amsterdam. The decor and atmosphere is great and the service us very friendly. The menu us quite extensive for all tastes but we opted for the traditional Dutch meatballs and mashed potatoes and were not disappointed at all. A very nice place and recommended for quick and reasonable lunches.

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
