Decided to visit based on other reviews and proximity to my hotel (feet were killing after a day at the museums). They were completely full, but let me sit outside. Despite being so busy, my waiter was very kind and attentive. I had the onion soup and Dutch Stew, and both were delicious. Highly recommend if you want to try... More

what a great place to eat.. the food and wine list are amazing.. the service was exceptional!! the restaurant was cozy, but not small, in fact is very spacious. but be warned, you have to be a mountain goat to get up and down the stairs (which is pretty typical for amsterdam. :) ) Food we tried: Oysters, escargots, Ribeye... We were recommended this restaurant by the concierge of the nearby Park Plaza Victoria hotel and weren't disappointed. I had the goat's cheese mushroom risotto which was very nice, but my wife had the confit duck leg with sauerkraut and oven roasted potatoes and said it was one of the nicest meals she has ever had. The service was good,... More

We enjoyed the cozy atmosphere of this restaurant. We sat by the window and enjoyed watching life in action out the windows. My traditional Dutch pork was tender and delicious. My wife loved the clams and then the Portabello.

This was my second visit and I thought my first visit a year ago was good so I thought I'd return! Onion soup should have a beefy rich broth with a bit of vino....this was not rich, no vino, and it was slightly thickened with corn starch or something similar, giving it a glutinous consistency ....yuck! Sent it back and... More

For our final night in Amsterdam we decided that we'd like to try out some local dishes, and Van Speyk appeared to hit the spot. Situated in a really old building full of charm with nicely lit exposed brick work matched with beautiful wood panelling, the restaurant looks the part. The tables are packed in close to each other, which... More

Having dinner at Van Speyk was a wonderful experience. It is located right in from of the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel, near the main train station (Amsterdam Centraal) and the Dam Square. Everything we ordered was delicious. We had a portobello mushroom with goat cheese and a rucola salad, shrimp croquettes, a spectacular beef tenderloin with pepper sauce, and an excellent... More

Had dinner with friends. Nice atmosphere but nothing special in foods tastes. Good selection but disappointing food. Friend ordered mushroom risotto and it was way worse then one we had the night before. I ordered fish appetizer and my herring at the fish market that morning was better. So I wouldn't recommend or go back even though we did find... More

Simply best foie gras ever. It is served seared with crunchy apple sauce. I ended up ordering another one. My friend ordered Escargot which was also delicious! However the main course was disappointing. We ordered ribeye stake and sole fish. Meat was not up to the expectations and the fish was not fresh. However once again we were pleased with... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
