Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It had been a long trip to Amsterdam. I was glad to finally arrive and drop off the heavy luggage at the hotel. I’m a seasoned traveler to Amsterdam and can understand when some people might say “Don’t hang out around Rembrandplein. It’s for tourists.”...Maybe, but I just wanted to relax and have a nice dinner on the first day of my first vacation in six years. The Old Bell was close by and a peek in the window showed that it was busy and had a warm, friendly atmosphere. A good choice. The service was terrific and the food was excellent. There was even a cat sleeping near by. Just like home. I had a great time at the Old Bell and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Amsterdam.More

Friendly feel to The Old Bell, staff great, and a nice selection of food and drinks. Also what’s not to love about the friendly pub cat, Bon Bon. Nice selection of music playing that’s not too loud or intrusive. If I came back to Amsterdam...again, I’d come back here.More

We went into the Old Bell for a drink around lunch time. The bar only had a few customers in at the time but had some music on, the barman was friendly and the drink were fairly priced. Had an old school pub feel to...it which I like. Would've certainly went back in the evening if we had stayed longer to see what it was like when more lively.More

We used this pub a few times on our Amsterdam trip. The drink prices are very good and the atmosphere was brilliant! The young guy with short who served us in the outside seating was extremely attentive talking about the drinks menu and ensuring we...didn’t have to queue at the bar (please pass on my thanks to him) The only small issue is that they don’t have alcoholic heineken on tap so we had amstel which we still thoroughly enjoyed.More

This is the place! We were here 8 years ago and glad it’s still at Rembrantplein Square! The people that work there are so friendly and even helpful! We asked after our meal where the closest liquor store, they even called the store to see...how late they were open! I got a cheese tosti and pint of beer. My friend also got the tosti and onion soup. The tostis were terrific and my friend really enjoyed the soup. If you visit Amsterdam, please visit this place, even if it’s for a beer… well worth it!More

Great local history bar. Been in the family for 50 years. Ed the bartender was a family member. My friend used to go there when she lived in the area. He was so sweet and welcoming. When he heard we were going to see Springsteen...there, he switched up the Playlist to all his tunes. Plus loved Bon Bon their cat! Just a good local tavern.More

The most welcoming and friendly pub that we have come across in Amsterdam. The staff are attentive, friendly, and can’t do enough for you - they make you feel so welcome! Reasonably priced and a huge selection of beers. If you’re a beer lover, this...place is a must. English style pub, with a Dutch twist. We will definitely be heading back to our favourite pub when we come back to Amsterdam, to see the lovely staff, taste the great beers and cuddle Bon Bon (the cutest pub cat!).More

The Old Bell sits among lots of restaurants. It is an Irish pub that doesn’t disappoint. The food is hot and very tasty. They have a nice patio with heaters if it gets cold. The staff are friendly and welcoming.

Service is good and prices are reasonable. The menu is limited but quality is OK. The fish and chips is quite juicy and batter is decent. Fried cheese sticks are nice as well. Kinda pub food.

Got there at 19.00 sat down the place was busy, waiters saw us, looked at us multiple times, didn’t even an knowledge us, waited until 19.30, went to bar to order, first waiter in seeing me walked away, waited another 5 minutes, waitress busy doing...something at the til, so I waited until I got her attention. Politely I asked if I could order (didn’t specify if was food or drinks) she replied aggressively “the kitchen is closed” and went back to doing what she was doing. So we gathered our things and left.More

We were turned away for being too many (12). Good thing there are other options right beside and nearby. Would not recommend for poor hospitality.

This place is always consistent, whether just having a drink or a meal. The onion soup was fab, as were the toasties. The staff are really friendly and attentive, will always return every time I’m in Amsterdam.
