I was looking for Indonesian food in Amsterdam and the Bunga Mawar filled the bill. I went there alone and so I couldn't order the rice plate and sample a few dishes. I got the beef rendang.. It was very good and there was a lot of it. This is like good home cooked food. Nothing fancy but well done... More

Really an awesome experience after going to so called better places. The food & portions were really good, with great Asian hospitality, can't wait to go back & see Yana the owner again.

This Indonesian restaurant was a little surprise. Very central, the restaurant is not really big. The owner was nice and friendly and gave us a very good suggestion: Nasi Rames. You will get 5 different kind of dishes (among them sambal telor, sambal tahu, rendang daging) served with rice. The food was tasty. Maybe a bit expensive, but it looks... More

Cheap and cheerful Indonesian food. Not an extensive menu but you can get a taster of what to expect from a reistaffel from their more meagre offering. My friend had this and I had their chicken curry.

Maybe we chose the wrong day to turn up, but when the streets are mobbed and a restaurant is empty then perhaps there is a clue to be discerned. Never had watery Rendang sauce before, so that was a first. Satay sauce clearly decanted from a jar the day before. The food was mostly edible but hugely disappointing. And not... More

What to do during a 15-hour overnight layover at Schiphol Airport? I took a quick train ride into the beautiful Amsterdam Central Station, and then walked across the street and jumped on an evening canal tour of the Light Festival. On the advise of fellow travelers, I then walked to a small street next to the Barbizon Palace Hotel and... More

Went here with a group of friends looking for some good Indonesian food. We got that, but we were pretty much told what to have and the place had the atmosphere of a wake! Really really good food though, which made it worth our while. I know that the service won't be everyone's cup of tea, so I understand the... More

Wanted to try Indonesian food in Amsterdam and came accross this restaurant. Triad gado gado, satay, goreng tahu and chicken curry. Food was far from satusfactory. Was so disappointed. Service was also not good. Waitress was not helpful and appeared snobbish. Will not come here again nor will i recommend others.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
