If you want to splurge on an artfully presented and most interesting dinner then reserve a table at Senses. We live in SF Bay Area and are spoiled by top-notch restaurants. It's also comfortable and unpretentious with excellent service. The meal is meant to be slow-paced (we did 6-courses and a cheese plate) as this is dining not just food to feed your face. Interesting wine parings some very good some uninspiring. Yes, they will also charge you for little things like water service which is annoying at an already pricey restaurant, but in the grand scheme of things would highly recommend Senses for a culinary experience.

This is a very special place and it was recommended to us by friends who had been there. We booked well in advance online and I would advise anyone to do the same if you want a table. We chose the 5 course option with wine pairing and it was fantastic. After 5 different amuse bouch and a glass of champagne the courses started to come with the matching wine. Every course was gorgeous and the wine superb. Each course and wine was meticulously explained by the incredibly helpful and knowledgeable team. Certainly the best meal we have had on this European trip and for what we had it was very good value and definitely had the wow factor

The dishes were all a remarkable mix of flavors, with subtle combinations that were a delight. The service was excellent. I drink a lot of water and can usually judge the service of a restaurant by how good a job they do keeping my glass full. It never went empty here. All in all, a delightful visit. One note: it's a fixed menu. They had a vegetarian option for my wife, but if you have a more complicated diet, you might want to check in advance.

Excellent Food however the service did not match. We made reservations in July 2019 for a special Valentines experience in 2020. On arrival there was no explanation that there was in fact a special menu and the option of 7 courses that we had anticipated was not being served. As one of us is rather fussy when it comes to wine we each selected a bottle to start proceedings. Throughout the evening both of our wine and water glasses were both completely empty at least 3 times which was a disappointment as we would of happily enjoyed a second bottle of the delicious wine. The only Dutch white wine wasn’t available which again was a particular disappointment. The head chef was gracious enough to engage freely with his friends, however everyone else didn’t get a look in which is again another disappointment given the size of the restaurant. Whilst it was minimal cost wise we were also charged for coffee not taken as it was a “special menu” so was surprised it was added as a separate cost to the special menu - naturally we didn’t pay that. Was quite a shame as we’d flown over from UK specially to celebrate our anniversary.

Thank you for the feedback. Definetely worth working on with the feedback given. We have reviewed these points and will do our best to avoid this in the future. Also, we would appreciate the comments on the evening itself so we can anticipate on it directly and turn the experience around in a positive way. The ‘10-dishes for valentine special’ was great value for money: € 90 incl a bottle of cava and a wonderful menu for two. Almost all of the dishes were good and none of them were bad. Actually it was in our top 2 of cook at home dishes during lockdowns (we tried around 7 or 8). The instructions were also super clear and not difficult at all. Quality and preparation complexity varies a lot between cook at home menu’s, but this one was great. And for the price, this is definitely one to recommend. Triple desert was also amazing!

For the first restaurant dinner since the pandemic, I couldn’t be more happy to have picked Senses! A cheerful welcome and nice ambience, followed by a local sparkling wine and a selection of amuse bouche, each one packed with a surprising amount of different but wonderful flavors and textures. Each of the following dishes were just as surprising and was accompanied by an excellent wine pairing. We enjoyed our evening full of flavor explosions and the excellent service throughout the meal.

Well I'm stuck in lockdown with the rest of the country. But unlike most people I'm lucky enough that senses was my last restaurant meal. I went with my best friend and we had an absolute ball. The wait staff were wonderful and friendly. The food was a collection of flavours that felt very familiar, but also new, in that they were perfectly distilled and composed against each other. The food was incredible but what really got me (and my dining partner) was the wine pairings. There was one pairing from the 7 we had that didn't blow our socks off. The sommelier said that he agreed and snuck us a little sample of the wine that he initially wanted to pair with that particular dish and all I can say is that man really knows what he's doing.

We ordered 7-course menu without wine pairing. All the dishes were beautifully plated and technically immaculately executed. Unfortunately the taste didn’t quite match the amazing presentation. While the ingredients individually were clearly fresh and high quality, as a dish they unfortunately didn’t quite match. All the dishes, apart from maybe 2, made it seem like the chefs tried to show off their cooking skills by mixing interesting ingredients and using cool techniques to prepare the dishes, without really putting much thought into taste, creating not so coherent dishes as a result. As we arrived and took a seat at our table, the waitress directly informed us that the restaurant offers water and that whenever the water glasses are empty the waiting staff will fill them up again. We thought it’s really nice. Unfortunately once we got our bill, we found out that we were billed 13€ for “water service”. Not only was this cost never mentioned and the “water service” just dropped on us, they apparently don’t care how much water you actually drink. So in our case we paid 13€ for 3 glasses of water. Reservation requires a 40€ deposit. Yes, as others have already mentioned in their reviews, this restaurant requires a money deposit when making reservation. The person from the restaurant replying to the comments here tries to play it down by saying that it is because they are trying to provide great service and whatnot. That is complete nonsense. We have been to plenty of restaurants including Michelin starred restaurants, none of which required you to make a deposit for reservation. This was the first for us.

“No sorry, you are not allowed to take the seats at the terrace. Those are the rules. They are reserved”. That’s what the waitress kept telling us, when we asked for a seat outside to eat our course of the walking dinner. The 10 seats were empty. It was 17:30 so nobody would show up anymore (terrace needs to be empty at 18:00). And we had walked quite some miles during this fantastic dinner tour. At the previous restaurant Sinne, there were seats outside, a warm welcome to invite us. But here, misinterpretation of rules, senselessly ruled over customer satisfaction. Cause I prebooked days before, with addresses, tel nrs etc. So no reason to block us from the empty terrace. Especially since we wanted to eat their food. Incredible. How the quality of really good food can be lost in a heartless customer experience. On top of that, we needed to drink the wine directly from the small bottle. Nobody at Senses thought of a fancy plastic glass (as they did in all the other restaurants on the journey. Dinner walking in Amsterdam? Yes, Great! But next time we will skip “Senses”.

Dear Peter, First of all, thank you for the review. How sad to hear that you have experienced it like this. We would of course prefer to welcome everyone to our terrace, but unfortunately this is not possible during the city food walk. We only have 4 tables on our terrace and there are about 150 people coming by for the restaurant city food walk during the day. We do not think it is fair to say yes to one and no to the other, which is why we have decided that we will only keep the terrace open for people who have made a reservation. About the wine, we give a bottle of glass to everyone, and not plastic, because we think this drinks more similar to a wineglass. unfortunately we are not allowed to give wineglasses, this is decided by the Amsterdams mayor. We will contact you by phone to give the full explanation, if this is oke with you. We hope to welcome you in our restaurant when we will be open again. Kind regards, Nina Luijters

On my last visit to Amsterdam we had dinner one night at the Senses Restaurant, which belongs to The Albus hotel. The Senses Restaurant appears in the Michelin guide and has as its flag wanting to stir sensations through its dishes, as it is deduced from its name. The tasting menu changes according to seasonal products and the price will vary depending on the number of dishes that comprise it and whether or not you want to pair with wine chosen by them, according to their advice. We had a beautiful wine pairing. We tried the 5-course tasting menu and were surprised. Very helpful and attentive staff. It is necessary to reserve, if you do not want to miss the experience.

Wonderful tasting menu. Everything about it was spot on, the waiter the wine, the plates, the presentation of the food and most importantly how wonderful it tasted. We booked lunch last minute, and really enjoyed the meal. I would definitely go back and definitely recommend it to anyone wanting wonderful food. It’s slightly away from the main part of Amsterdam, but it’s worth the extra 10 minute walk.

We were staying in the Hotel and were lucky enough to get seats at lunch time on the Monday having failed to get them for Saturday or Sunday lunch or dinner. The Monday lunch spot was surprisingly empty. Overall fabulous, 3 amusees, a starter of seabass, a main of venison a pre dessert and a dessert, followed by sweets and mini biscuits. Altogether awesome, great service and a great price. You can choose 2, 3 or 4 courses but the chef decides what you eat. Only caveat, the wine and the water are expensive. Water 13.50 euro for a bottle. Definitely worth a visit.

We booked the full senses experiece also refered to as «All in» at the restaurants webpage. As we entered we were not greeted. Someone pointed us to our table. We sat down. Some appatizerflake with a dip, was already put on all tables. We sat at the table for 10 minutes before a waiter came. No drinks was offered. Note: We had among other things ordered a menu including an aperitif glass of champagne. The waiter came and started to speak without stop about the greatness of the menu. When I asked about the aperitif, I was put in place for interupting. She told me; i was not finished with what I was saying!?! The champagne and most of the wine was quite good. The foods were pretencious with nice plating but lacking in flavor or overpowering tasts. The staff did not clean up crumles, change the tablecloth on the supporttable when it got terrible stained by oliveoil and rarely toped up our waterglasses. When the check came, they had added a tin of caviar, a cheeseplatter and a glass of port. They explained they thought it to be obvious that these were extras. The dish with the caviar was introdused as their twist of surf and turf. Nothing else on the plate, than the caviar could have been explaind to be «surf».

We are in love with Senses, it always exceeds our expectations. We previously tried the 7 courses menu (Incredible) and We just went for lunch: we could add a delicious tar tar to the 2 courses lunch menu (which obviously includes amouse bouche and a fabulous dessert). The service was perfect, they really take care of the customers and of their requests. We brought with us our lovely 3 months old son and still we had a very romantic experience. The chef prepares all dishes with great attention, the different textures explode in your mouth and you cannot remain unsatisfied. Top quality products, top service, nice location obviously affected by the limited space allowed by the corona rules. Still you can enjoy a nice terrace.
