If you're in the Spui neighborhood and looking for a comfy brown cafe, the Hoppe is perfect. The bartenders are very friendly and will help you sort out which Jenever to try. (Don't make the mistake of thinking it's the same as gin.) Also, 4 stars for their bitterballen!

The staff of this Bruin Café was super welcoming and led us through the bar to the much more spacious inside room. They advised on food and beer. The place is very typical and the atmosphere is great. The food was delicious (dutch croquettes and pea soup) and very Dutch. 5/5 and recommended!

Cafe Hoppe is a place like you'll find 13 in a dozen. Food is not bad, not special, not excellent, just common. The location is good and that is the reason why it is so well known.

This is a very popular bar in the Spui area. Count on it being standing room only with people eagerly chatting with beer in hand or on the table. Their is also waiter service outside so you don't have to brave the crowd to get a drink. I find it absolutely amazing this is one of many pubs in Amsterdam... More

I really like beer and they really know how to make a great Pilsner. I instantly fell in love with the sweeter beers with great balance as the hops came through.

This is not really a restaurant, although you can order some snacks. It is an old bar, lately also frequently visited by tourists. In summer you can drink your beer on the street in front of the bar. In winter the ambience is old-fashioned but great.

We've been here many times and enjoy coming back every time we're in town. Perfect finger food and bartenders who know how to serve beer the best way!

The old side has a lovely patina of age and a great place to sit and have a beer. The selection is good and the staff are friendly.

If you want to rub shoulders with the locals, this is the place to go! It gets crowded after work with the hip, cool and trendy of Amsterdam. This is a very old drinking condition that is normally carried on standing outside, but the inside is also nice. Staff are hard working but always friendly.

This was our 2nd visit to Hoppe but our first eating, we decided to try something Dutch and opted for the Bitterballen, not exactly to my taste but my boyfriend enjoyed them! We also ordered the nachos which were tasty and two strongbow ciders as neither of us are beer drinkers. 25€ for lunch for 2 people in the centre... More
