Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

"Today I visited Broodbakker Simon Meijssen in Van Baerlestraat in Amsterdam to buy a cake, and I was shocked by the rude behavior of the staff (short hair blond woman)When I pointed at the cake I wanted to purchase, the shopkeeper snapped at me, telling...me to take my hand away in a humiliating manner. Not only was the service terrible, but the quality of the food was also low. I will not be returning to this shop again." They have to hire staff who are less rude! And more trying to be customer friendly and sell the product!More

Great bakery. Huge range of choice, fair prices. Great decor. Ideal for quick lunch/brunch/snack. Mostly takeaway but a few seats inside which we appreciated to rest our tired legs.

We are attracted by the tempting bread and pastries when exploring the Museum Quarter. Simon Meijssen is a quaint bakery with an extensive selection of attractive options. I tried the quiche Lorraine and enjoyed it. Great for some quick food.

Became a really bad place and I was a customer for a long time. Today I found hair in one of their muffins. Really disappointing!

They open early so this is a good option to have a to-go fast breakfast before hitting the museums. The croissants are excellent here, highly recommended, they are better than the ones we tasted in France. The place is really close to museums quarter so...if you have an early reservation for a museum this is probably the only place open before 9 am. Their orange juice in bottle is real orange juice, yum.More

I visit Amsterdam almost every single year, sometimes twice in a year, for various events and to catch up with my regular Dutch friends. And whenever I am in the museum quarter there are always two places I never miss: Albert Heijn for the convenience,...and this bakery for the exquisite quality of its pastries and sandwiches. It is on the pricey side for sure (after all, this part of the city is chock full of high end designer shops and is an absolute paradise if you have a big enough wallet - which I certainly DON'T!) and even something as basic as a saucijzenbroodje / kaasenbroodje (that's sausage roll and cheese roll) is far superior to any that you will pick up at other bakeries. However, it is the Dutch pastries and traditional fruit / cream cakes that are by far the most delectable. They look absolutely mouth watering...not cheap for sure, but they are a perfect treat if you want to try something special. Once bitten forever smitten, as they say. Recent visits have seen queues here as it is generally very busy, and some of the most popular items sell out fast! Although not spotted in recent visits, the shop also had its own famous black and white cat which only appears in the evening after the shop has closed and everything has been cleared from the displays and shelves. I always used to see it sitting around in the background, very late in the day whilst the owners are mopping everything down..... You will often see cats gracing many shops in the Netherlands, which gives it its own particular *gezellig* feel, and this bakery is no exception.More
