We were walking around the area and stumbled across this bar - so glad we did! Very old and traditional - a real locals place. We were welcomed in though - one of those places you can't stop looking around at. Somewhere you could stay for quite sometime too! Would recommend - I'm not there'd be anything quite like this... We stumble this cafe as we were originally going to Cafe Winkel. The queue over at Winkel is horrendous, so we decided to try Hegeraad instead. Service is kinda slow but i think it's really normal here. We were seated outside, watching people cycling past, walking past etc... Weather is nice and cool. By the way, the apple pie here... More

We visited the Cafe Hegeraad on our Amsterdam trip. Our apartment was located over the Cafe. It is really nostalgic and has its own style. The waitress was really nice and we loved the apple pie!

Had a lovely afternoon break here sitting outside and enjoying a wide selection of beer. Fun and casual atmosphere. Friendly locals place with soccer and cycling on tvs in the back.

The owner told us he served the best Apple Pie in Amsterdam. I think he was probably right. As someone who has hunted down apple pie in numerous countries, I was not disappointed. With our coffee, great fare on a freezing day in Amsterdam.

This is a regular Amsterdam pub were locals have they're marketday (saturday) meetups, coffee and happy hour. It never changed much over the years. Don't expect high service and fancy food, but enjoy the atmosphere.=

This was our third visit to Hegeraad over a few visits to Amsterdam, after good experiences the first two times. After a long walk from Nieuwmarkt, we arrived around 5:30pm on a Sunday among a few filled outside tables and a nearly empty bar area inside. After standing unnoticed at the bar for 10 minutes, we decided to sit at... More

We walked by and popped in for a late evening drink and to play a game of cards. Lovely staff, cute little place and great atmosphere. Grab a spot outside or in the window for good people watching in the Jordan district.

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
