Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Incredible food, atmosphere and super friendly staff. Literally the only place in Amsterdam that hasn’t made me feel totally unwanted as an American tourist. Finally on my last day here I found a place I could actually enjoy spending time and money at! I understand...not liking tourism but at least here they still have some decency. I was able to relax and use wife to call my daughter and it was even peaceful enough to paint even though it got quite busy!More

This place is super cute next to the park with a fabulous menu - I ate here twice and both times I had a fantastic experience - service was fast, the food fresh and delicious- I wanted to try the entire menu! Coffee is excellent...and the baked goods scrumptious- loved the avocado toast as well! Really glad I found this gem!More

We called in for breakfast just because of the name but were not disappointed. Both of us were happy with our food and also the service, quirky cafe that was close to the accommodation we were staying in and we're glad we went there.

In vibrant Amsterdam Oost, across from the Oosterpark, lies Bar Bukowski, elegant bar of functional chic. Its international menu [many vegie entrees] seems at odds with the down-&-out Bohemian image of its namesake who convinced a million wannabe writers to live a nonspoonfed life in...pursuit of their muse. But it all somehow works: fab balance between well-appointed & comfortably lived-in. Chic entrees balanced by affordable comfort food. A real place & not a memorabilia-stuffed tourist-bar-museum à la Harley Davidson Cafes. But there’s distinct references. to Bukowski’s spirit: Drinks served in glasses emblazoned with his rough-hewn face. Wonderful cocktails, reasonable wines & interesting Belgian & local beers including the Bukowski, a strong blonde brewed by the preeminent Amsterdam brewer, Brouwerij 't IJ, located in a nearby windmill + good thinking beers from local brewers: Oedipus, Two Chef & Eternal Youth. I was fortunate to be asked to read there in their Notes of a Dirty Old Man series. Upon arrival, the place was buzzing, each table a satellite of bombinating conversation which can be worrisome cuz patrons don’t easily give up a “gezellig” evening to some stranger. But it quickly became apparent that my anxieties were ill-founded. I read for a half hour from my short story CONTEMPLATING CHARLES BUKOWSKI’S 1st KISS & novel BEER MYSTIC. Not only were people respectful – hear the pin drop – but they chuckled at all the right lines, all-in-all a magical evening.More

Went there for drinks and ended up ordering half of the barfood they offer on their menu. From iconic bitterballen to amazing nachos. Everything we tried didn't disappoint! Nice selection of beers and cocktails and the atmosphere was great too. Additionally we had the most...charming waiter who never missed to swap out an empty glass with a freshly filled one.More

Been here for breakfast only one time but enjoyed it very much. Nice coffee and fresh juices. Good solid eggs-menu to pick from and friendly people. We were here early morning on a Sunday and it's nice and quiet, sure it will get busier later...on the day especially if you look at the location. Good choice to try it out.More

I've been to Bar Bukowski a few times now for lunch and while the food has always been decent and the atmosphere always nice, I have noticed that the quality of the pancakes, specially the fruits that come with it, differ through the seasons, so...definitely keep that in mind next time you're visiting. Eg: you get better fruits in Spring than you do in Winter. But no complaints, it's a cute place for a catch up but it will get extremely busy after work hours, especially on Fridays.More

I am doubting how to rate this bar: 3 or 4 stars. At the end I decided 3 stars... The location of this bar is just perfect. It’s opposite of the Oosterpark and Olvg hospital on a corner facing a busy crossroad. As the weather...today is super warm, the terrace is in the shade. Perfect for me light skinned person. And since the cross road is busy, it’s never boring to sit there. The staff is young and friendly: not to quick, not to slow and approachable. The tables are nice and complete: menu is there (check), pepper and salt is there (check) and there is a nice bunch of fresh flowers (nice!). So far so good! While reading the menu I actually did not know what to choose... lots of bread, some salads and some warms dishes. I was looking for a warm lunch... burger? Flamkuchen? Salad? I understand it’s a bar so ok... but the prices are just high! 12,95 for a single hamburger?? Without side dish? I decided to order omelet with vegetables... nice but not special... 9,95. Great terrace but too expensive: 3 stars.More

Very good food, cool ambience, free wifi, lovely service. So we went there for several breakfasts in a row! Their smashed avocado toast (with feta cheese: inspired) and eggs benedict are spectacular. My son loved, loved their pancakes. Croque madam was pretty good too. Even...their yogurt and granola with fruits was great. They also serve good coffee. One day my son had the pulled chicken sandwich but he thought it could use more flavor: either sweet or spice. Do not order the french toast rollups. Worst item on the menu.More
