An excellent restaurant serving a variety of vegetarian dishes. The ambience is great and it is located right along the Prinsengracht canal in the Jordaan area. You have the option to either be seated inside or outside along the canal. This is quite a popular restaurant and there can be a long wait as well if you don't call ahead... More

Upon entry you get a very nice vibe of the place. It's homey, cosy. The welcome is not very warm, but pretty formal. We ordered the soup and that was delicious. We had to ask for butter by the bread. There is no wifi. For us that was not a problem. The cleaniness level is not upto my personal standard.... More

I had heard that this place was great for veggie and vegan food so popped in this evening. They didn't have any tables available so I got take out. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I ordered the vegan meal of the day which was a lovely mix of a few different vegan meals in small portions. The three... More

We were looking for a veg friendly restaurant (that was open for dinner) and decided to come here based on the reviews. We ordered the mix starter (dips), the vegan dish of the day and the Mediterranean dish. The vegan was very hearty - half a baked bell pepper filled with quinoa, a slice of veg pie, salad, couscous, and... More

After much trying, I have found this 100% vegetarian place in Amsterdam, it's in a great location if you are staying near central station, and one of the few around open for dinner. The menu it's simple and basic but good, I had the vegan dish of the day and my wife had the Mediterranean option. Both were good, the... More

We had our last dinner of 2016 at de Bolhoed! It's a lovely place with great music and a nice atmosphere. It's not very touristy, but well visited. The food was excellent. I as a vegan myself really enjoyed the different menus they offered. They offer different cultured menus which are reasonably priced (around 26 euros for entrée, main and... More

Went there on a Sunday evening...rustic ambience, very cordial staff, don't miss the vegan dish of the day. Dint find it expensive and the food is good but not aah-hah great. Simple basic and satisfying. Will advise to visit and remember only cash accepted.

Really enjoyed everything about this place - the food, the rustic interior, the staff and of course the resident cat - all amazing. My new local!

Our visit to De Bolhoed (meaning Bowler's hat) was a spur of the moment decision, more on the urging of my vegan daughter. What a lovely surprise. This place oozes character, the inside is casual dining with brightly coloured walls and eclectic furnishings. What you get here is lots of lovely fresh food and generous portions. On offer are sandwiches,... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
