Central place, quite large space with many tables. Nice interior but lacks a bit of a warmth feeling due to large space. During good weather there are a few tables next to the canal, outside. Service and products are fine, but nothing special.

Cafe de Jaren is definitely one of the best place to relax and enjoy a good coffee in Amsterdam. The pastries are also delicious. The atmosphere of the place is awesome, with high ceilings, large windows letting the daylight in, and view on the canals....More

A large, airy room inside, as well as outdoor seating on the bank of the Amstel. Simple, but well made food.

This is a spacious cafe which is normally not too crowded in the mornings and early afternoons. It is thus a perfect place to read one of the many international newspapers or get some work done. The staff is friendly but could be slightly more...More

Huge elegant cafe and restaurant at the junction of two waterways, perfect for a summer's evening. Elegant dining is either upstairs in the restaurant or on the balcony, but you would be well advised to book a table on the balcony if the weather is...More

service in the GF cafe is hit or miss but a spot outside overlooking the canal is great. The menu is somewhat limited but there is a more extensive menu at the upstair restaurant

Cafe de Jaren was an unsolicited recommendation from our concierge which always makes me a bit skeptical. However, we enjoyed our snack so much that we ate breakfast there the next day. The service is very friendly, and there is a lovely terrace at the...More

Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the
Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its
saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to
view some of the city’s most picturesque canals,
historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples

Cafe de Jaren opened its doors in june 1990 as one of the largest cafes in Amsterdam, sporting an entire new and unique formula. The concept is mirrored in its spacious and light-rich architecture and interior decoration, as well as in its pleasant, non-pushing atmosphere. The large building features a spacious cafe on the ground floor with an international reading-table, a pleasant restaurant with large-choice salad bar on the first floor, as well as a superb canal-view terrace.Situated right in the centre of Amsterdam, Cafe de Jaren can be easily reached by public transport.
